Hello! My name is Kelly Taylor and I am the owner/artist behind Poppyseed Photography studio located in Buffalo, NY! My love of photography began when I started using my dad's old work camera to take photos of my friends goofing around on our trampoline. I was immediately hooked on documenting every single moment, no matter how big or small!
In 2014 I completed my BFA in Professional Photographic Illustration from RIT, with a focus in Photojournalism. I attended tons of classes + workshops, interned + worked with multiple photographers before finding my niche in wedding + lifestyle photography. It truly is such an honor that I get to be part of some of the most important milestones in my clients' lives!
My photographic style is best described as "creative documentary". I love to capture real, authentic moments as they happen naturally. Since I am an introvert at heart, being a wallflower is where I’m most comfortable + is the core of my work. Being able to document a wedding without being intrusive is a huge part of my job. When my wedding clients look back at their images I want them to not only see but FEEL the way they felt during their big day. So, if that means I have to hang back, climb onto tables, or literally bend over backwards to get a good shot, I will.
I also enjoy practicing + coming up with unique poses to create timeless portraits. You’ll never see me fall into those traditional, boring poses that everyone else is doing. I love to experiment + I’m so grateful for trusting, adventurous clients who allow me to work outside of the box.
Each of my clients has turned into lifelong friends so that makes it hard to choose one shoot over another as a favorite. Weddings will always be my number one event to photograph. The bride + groom from the wedding featured here are my high school classmates! There’s something extra special about documenting such an important milestone for people that you’ve known for years. Their wedding was so classic + elegant; you can tell they paid a lot of attention to each little detail. Plus, if you know me, you know I love my wine, so their wine bottle theme was right up my alley!
