Skip DeBusk Photography

Hello world, my name is Skip and I’ve been a professional photographer since 2008.  My passion for photography began at an early age when my father’s hobby caught my attention.  My father would be what you’d call a travel photographer of sort.  He loved to travel, take family vacations, and would document the whole experience on 35mm film.  In the late 1970’s he purchased the top of the line camera at the time, a Canon A-1 35mm SLR.  I grew up learning how to take photographs, manually, using that Canon.  I can still remember the anticipation of getting the film developed to see what I did right, wrong, and …what was that a picture of?

As I’ve grown my business over the past eight years, I’ve expanded from controlling the setting and light in my basement studio to working with my surroundings and available light outdoors. I rarely shoot in my studio anymore as a majority of my clients want outdoor or on location settings.

My favorite season is autumn because I love the colors, the smells, and the tastes of the season.  I’ve also grown to love autumn for the low sun angles and beautiful backdrops that nature provides.  In essence, outdoor autumn photography is favorite photo shoot as a whole.  I’m not alone in my admiration for the beauty of fall as this has become my busiest time of the year as couples and families want to embrace themselves in a photograph of fall colors.

What I enjoy most about photography is involving others in my passion for beauty and creativity. In every photo session there will always be that one or two photographs that really make you say wow, now that’s a great shot!  When my clients fall in love with those photos I know that I just created a lasting memory, a work of art that will be cherished for a long time.

I see myself as an artist, using my camera much the same way a painter will use their brush to create color, composition, light, and ultimately invoke a feeling when that finished portrait is viewed.
