Whenever I walk into a clients home and the energy is effortless, the flow is balanced and the morning light is pouring in and dancing about, I feel inspired. All of the long nights and sleepless hours of thankless parenting and running my own business fade into the backdrop and I emerge in ecstasy as a photographer practicing my craft, composing memories that will be cherished and remembered for lifetimes.

I recently had the opportunity to work with a client in the adorable art deco town of Del Ray in Alexandria, VA. I often work with clients in Northern Virginia and I love all of the history, the small businesses and bustling boutiques. I used to reside in the town, in fact, it is where I started my business in 2012. A place where I was supported from the business community when I was learning the ropes and all of the knots to untangle. But a town that also supported and delivered me into a creative community of like minded people of similar passions and pursuits. So suffice to say, I have a crush on Del Ray, VA.

Meeting with Katie and Kit and their beautiful little ones Tallulah and Delta was an absolute joy. Their calm energy and openness made for a wonderful session as seen from these images.
A musical family, they often sing and dance and celebrate time with each other through this medium. Tallulah at one point burst out into song singing, “Let it Go” from the film Frozen and Kit played right along on the guitar. They are the type of family that did not require posing and the images felt almost effortless.

Photography for me not just a career, it is a passion project, or series of projects. Being able to practice with such inspirational backdrops is energizing. I left the session after having focuced not only on each child but the family as a whole and the parents together. Who later told me, “I have to mention I really appreciated you getting some photos of just the two of us as well - the focus is so often on the kids and it was nice to remember they wouldn't be here without us.” It is comments like that which make me feel truly successful. I pride myself on including everyone down to the family dog. I have an intention that when you hire me you hire me for documentation of the entire event. To me, the best session is one where I leave not only feeling that I have gotten great images but one where I leave knowing that I have made a difference in the relationship that I have built with the client.

I focus on Portrait, Event, Wedding and Small Business Branding Photography for starters and if you want to know more about me or my process you may check out more at Meghan LaPrairie Photography.

Wonderful photos! I appreciate the photographer's comments about her approach to capturing the shots, and how it leaves HER feeling gratified, as well as providing the quality of photographs that become a ;egacy for that family or person.
