North Houston Family, Baby, and Child Photographer - Andrea Surak

I first would like to say that I am so honored to be partnering with Basic Invite, and am grateful for you all reaching out to me.  Being a North Houston family, baby, and child photographer, Basic Invite fits so well within my brand.

My passion for photography started when I had my first child, Caleb.  I was so afraid of losing moments that seemed to flash before my eyes, and one day my husband came home with a Canon Rebel T3.  It kind of snowballed and that's precisely the moment my photography business was born.  Fast forward to now, I have learned so much about myself on this journey, have realized that I love true moments, and that beauty lies in the most unsuspecting places. This brings me to my most favorite photoshoot ever.

Although I wish I could jump right in, a backstory is a must.  My sister, Audrey, was diagnosed with a mood disorder and chronic depression a couple of years ago.  And in her junior year of high school, things took a turn for the worst.  To make a long story short, she's doing amazing now, took everything she learned about herself and has come out kicking and fighting and now on top.  I couldn't be more proud of her.

Throughout her journey, I did a piece for Beyond the Wanderlust highlighting women who have gone through hard times, but have grown from those struggles.  Because another tidbit about me: I am all about that empowering women life.  Seriously.  I believe that women are so incredibly powerful.  I wanted Audrey to come up with these images herself in her head, and I wanted to tell her story through my art.  The images you see pictured here are dark, moody, and gorgeous, just like her.

I had each woman that I photographed do a write up of their biggest struggle, so with what I had in my head coupled with what she wrote for me, I do believe these images speak.  They speak her language and mine and for that, I found it to be my most proud moment as a photographer.

I don't believe that we should fit any sort of mold.  That our differences are exactly who we were intended to be.  And if you can dig deep and truly find yourself, magic literally happens. Whether that be through some form of art, music, technical skill, or as a person, we can be magical!

If you can't tell, I am also a dreamer.  I believe in big dreams and that they all can come true if we work hard at them.  My husband thinks I am the cheesiest person alive, but I kinda dig that about myself.

I am so honored to have this opportunity and I hope that you love these images.  To check out more of my work, you can visit my website here.
