Modern Dynamix - Featured Photographer

Well I guess now that I think about it I have liked taking pictures since I was little. I remember when I found my first camera in my dads garage. It was a little yellow film camera held together with red electrical tape. Needless to say, that one didn't last very long. After that, I recall trips to Walmart to develop my disposable cameras. I think I was around 10 at the time but photography wasn't something I had a real passion for until much later in life.

As I got older I had some point and shoot cameras but my turning point was about five years ago when I found out my wife was pregnant with our beautiful daughter Avery. That was the moment I decided I needed a better camera. So I bought my first dslr and of course had no clue how to use it. After 9 months of YouTube videos and chasing the dog around snapping photos, I was starting to really get into it.

Then my friends gave me the opportunity to shoot their wedding. I was super nervous to do it but it actually turned out pretty well. After that I started shooting almost anyone who would let me point for basically free. Eventually, my photos improved over time so I decided to start charging a little bit.

I was in a bands around the area for most of my teens and early 20s and knew a lot of people in that scene. I used those connections to begin shooting promotional material for local acts as well as live performance shoots. In the meantime, more friends got married and I was doing more and more weddings. Eventually people I didn't know started asking me to shoot their weddings and that's when it hit me, "I'm going to be a wedding photographer".

Over the past couple years I've slowly moved into shooting solely weddings and I could not be happier as a photographer. Wedding photography to me is the most rewarding type of photography. It's just the simple fact that someone you don't know is trusting you with the memories of the biggest day of their life. Most times their decision is based solely off my previous work. I feel a lot of pressure to deliver for the bride and groom. Thats what I think I like most about it. It's also a perk to get to know and hang out with so many new people each year.

When it comes to my style I don't believe I have one. I've really tried to learn as much as possible about many different styles and techniques. I'm not pinned down to one thing in a situation if I think something else would work better. When it comes to wedding photos you kind of have to be that way I think. It's a photo journalists assignment, fashion shoot and a product shoot all in one if you really think about it.
