Little Moments Make the Whole Photo

As a child, Rebecca would hold her hands up to her eyes as if looking through the viewfinder of a camera to picture life as a photograph. She has always been drawn to the fascinating beauty of lines, light, and people. She started taking pictures with her father’s camera at an early age.  Being a skilled photographer himself, he was able to provide her with the earliest lessons in the principles of photography. At the age of fifteen, she received her first camera (and National Awards), and from there, her love of photography flourished.

Kansas City Wedding Photography

Catch Light Photography's Rebecca Knechtel specializes in Kansas City wedding photography that showcases relationship and personality.

As seen in her images, she has a natural eye and instinct for photographing images of strength, beauty, and emotion by observing the moment and capturing it with truth and creativity.    Her style combines a photojournalistic approach with classic photography.  Kansas City wedding photography benefits with an ideal blend of traditional posed images and natural, candid moments.

She starts all her photo session by first understanding what her couples are looking for in their photographs, thus helping to develop the creative process before the click of the shutter.  "It is within the uniqueness of the individual where I find my greatest inspiration." says Rebecca.  And the photo shoot will be anything but stiff and formal.  Instead, think fun, fresh, romantic, and hip!  Really, it’s just a play date that brings out honest and real images showcasing your personality.  She captures a variety of images; both posed and candid, to capture YOU so that can keep that moment in time to treasure forever.

Heather and Devin's Kansas City Engagement Session Story

Heather and Devin have a magical love story.  They were starting to get pressured from their friends and family to "settle just a little bit" in their choice of a lifelong partner.  People often told Heather that she would never find her husband if she kept being so particular.  Heather was determined not to settle.  Then she met Devin.  And you can see from the images that the couple is pure joy to be around.

Together, we brainstormed ideas for their engagement session and choose a Kansas City park because they love all things outdoors.  The park has everything they love:  open fields, huge trees, creeks & lakes, and fire pits.  The day was perfect and the evening gifted us with a beautiful sunset!  Because campfires and fun outdoorsy things like smores have such a huge place in Devin & Heather's relationship (and proposal story!), we thought it would be fitting to end the session with a camp fire.

For me, photographing them was a blast.  My goal with every photography session is to showcase my client's personality, and they were brimming with it!  I love the little moments that happen: everything from real laughter to nose crinkles.  What is going to matter years from now is that their relationship is reflected in their engagement images as well as their wedding photographs.  That is what tugs on the heart-strings and evokes true emotion.
