This photography for the adventurers, the hopeless romantics who aren't afraid to show it and the appreciators of beautiful, candid, real moments.
It might start to rain. Hair is known for having a mind of it’s own. You might decide to go barefoot. You might decide you want your senior pictures taken of you in the windy city, or hiking a mountain, or sitting in a rustic coffee shop. You might decide that bridge jumping would make the best suiting engagement photo with your significant other. Or a pillow fight.
It’s my passion to capture life. To capture raw, real moments of raw, real people. Compelling and imperfectly flawless.
Breathing Moments was launched in 2012 but even before it was my “profession,” photography has always been my passion and a stem of who I am.
When I was eight years old, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Nothing out of the ordinary for a young girl. But that soon changed when I found my parent’s small “family camera” and couldn’t put it down.
I quickly fell in love with the art of photography, and my loving parents supported me and my passion immensely, even at a young age. I started taking pictures of my friends (the model in these photos, Stephanie, is one of them) and quickly learned how to make them feel beautiful and comfortable in front of the camera to catch more candid moments. It was my goal to create a sort of art that causes it's viewers to feel something.
The best birthday present ever was the gift I received from my parents on my thirteenth birthday, which was my first quality camera. From there, I continued to dig deeper in studying this art inside and out (I still have much to learn). The more I grew, the more I loved it. In short, I shot my first wedding near the age of fifteen, and started my official business the following year.
What makes a photo come alive is it's authenticity. The spontaneous moments that happened when no one is looking, or when no one knew they were being photographed. They have exquisite value. Natural, intriguing motions and expressions are happening constantly and to be able to capture them is a treasure.
Once I walked into a bridal dressing room to find six bridesmaids all sharing one mirror doing their makeup, a laughable amount of Starbucks coffee scattered all around the room and a flower girl (who probably already had a long day) had fallen asleep in a chair. The happy, content, radiant bride herself was seated in a corner getting her hair done while eating straight from a box of Oreo's. Later, the bride got butterflies of excitement right before she walked down the aisle. The groom teared up when he saw her and the tears continued as they read their vows. Mom and dad held hands with big smiles on their faces. The speeches and toasts were entertaining and meaningful. The bride and groom tried to steal a few kisses when they thought nobody was looking and later the dance floor was on fire and young-at-heart grandma was voted the best dancer. These are the raw, spontaneous moments I love to capture to be cherished forever.
Even when I am "posing" my models, I want them to look authentic. natural. captivating. Whether it's a stylish high school senior or a twitterpated couple gazing into each other's eyes.
Everyone has a unique story. I believe in capturing real things and real people how they are.
