Photography came to me by sheer chance, or dumb luck, or fate. However you want to look at it. I found, in a camera, the ability to capture the world around me. Have you ever thought of that? That you can freeze time with a click of a button? That you have made the person you are capturing immortal?

Perhaps this one of my main reasons for photographing weddings. Weddings are beautiful, timeless, and no matter how much money two people have or how many people attend, the love shared between two individuals can be captured there, forever, in it's prime. That is the most beautiful privilege of all.

Of all my weddings, though they are all special, I found this one to have a beautiful place in my heart. Sarah and Jake, very much young sweethearts, asked me to photograph their big day. I was there from start to finish- when the bride started her hair until the music started to wind down at the party.

This sweet couple even took me (and my brand new car!) down old dirt roads, past Arkansas City, KS, where they had their first date. The groom told the bride, the night of their first date, that he was going to kiss her at every stop sign. So she took him down the back roads where there are no stop signs- "Spooky Hollow". And this is where we took some of my most favorite photos.

Though it was a hot day in July, the pair never complained once. Jake, an Airman, was preparing to be stationed in Korea for the next year, so the newlyweds wouldn't have much time to spend married before he departed, but they remained positive and were prepared to make the most of every moment. To truly capture a love like this is rare and very touching.

When words can't quite say what you want, a photograph can. That's one thing I've found to be true each and every time I pick up my camera. As humans, sometimes we struggle to connect with the things right in front of us- animals, mother nature, even humans. Some believe that the camera creates a barrier between two beings, where I think, for me, it is the opposite. Sometimes, my social anxiety creates an invisible barrier- I get nervous around people. However, my camera allows me into the very soul of the being in front me, and in the end result, they get to see my soul, too. It gives me the confidence I sometimes lack to truly see what is in front of me.

I am 23 years old and just getting started in my life. I am finishing my degree, I love my career so far, and I have the most amazing family and boyfriend. While I may watch the world change around me, you can always bet I will have a photograph to document every single step along the way. For this ability, I am forever grateful.
