Hi! First, let me introduce myself. I'm Tyra Dickinson and I like to make art; all kinds. My passion is with photography. I reside and work in Southern Oregon. I started snapping photos 15 years ago in high school. I did it for an elective as most photographers start. Then after I graduated I realized that finding decent photos for home décor was expensive. There I got out my trusty 35 mm Minolta and went about shooting. I did this for all sorts of things but mainly landscapes. Then I ended up being asked to photograph senior photos, engagements, weddings even! I realized I enjoyed interacting with the people so much that I primarily stuck with portraiture.
Along my journey I have been able to branch out on local media, different websites and blogs, interact with other photographers. I have won awards, my work has been published and it all still feels like a dream! I love what I do so much and I love the people I get to interact with so very much. This is more of a relationship building work than I had ever imagined.
Mentoring high school seniors is a favorite of mine. I get to teach the kids lighting, composition, rule of thirds and how to use the camera in manual mode. The transformation is amazing. They always make me so proud.
I have collaborated with a local bakery to offer very beautiful stylized cake smash sessions. I am getting pretty well known for these fun and messy sessions. Everything from the cake to décor, outfit and props is all purposely planned and executed with the parents desire in mind. Whether that be for the party, the invite, I make their imagination come to life. It is so fun to watch the little ones really have a blast.
I do a mix of studio and outdoor photography. I like to utilize as much natural light as possible always in my sessions. My style is well balanced between classic and photojournalistic.
The photos that I chose in this session were just some from one of the most perfect cake smash sessions that I have ever done. The child was not only very well behaved but she really got in to the cake. There was nothing left to send home to mom and dad! It was the cake smash of my dreams. Not many regularly do cake smash sessions for their one year olds, but as much fun as they are, and as much color and fun and imagination you can put into one; I don't see why they aren't staple children's photos! I love when clients get to have a TON of fun doing their photos. Those awesome memories are what it is all about!
