Kendall Rock

Hello all and all hello, my name is Kendall Rock, hailing from Poulsbo/Seattle, Washington. I studied filmmaking in college but caught the wedding bug after photographing my aunt's wedding a few years ago, and am now hooked. I like to think that growing up in the green, blue, and misty gray of the Pacific Northwest crafted my aesthetic - perhaps you'll be able to see what I mean. I'm excited to share with you one of my favorite weddings of all time: my darling friends, Harry and Jaclyn, married in Albany, Oregon, August 2015.

Some of my favorite, most intimate moments happen in the earliest stages of the day. While the day is centered around the bride and groom, there is so much love between the wedding party. Some of my favorite moments and frames are from the bride getting ready with her bridesmaids.

It set the tone for the whole day; everyone was crying, there was just so much love.

I’m a big fan of natural frames. It could be a window or other elements of a building, but I also love using other people as frames.

This wedding got really tricky really fast because I was CRYING as Jaclyn walked down the aisle. As soon as Harry saw her, he started crying, and suddenly the whole wedding was crying, and my camera was shaking. I thought, “boy, I hope my second shooter is getting this, I’m shaking so hard I’m going to mess up!” but when I looked over at Veronica, my second shooter, she was sobbing and struggling to hold up her camera as well. It was a mess. It was so awesome.

I try to be sneaky. I’m always looking for the moments in the day when people forget or don’t know that I am there. I snapped this photo as Harry and Jaclyn were waiting for me, right after they had exited the ceremony. They didn’t hear me coming, and I snagged this shot; their pure excitement about what they just did together is so priceless, there’s no way I would have been able to show that in a posed photo.

I usually expect exhaustion after the ceremony, since I've been on my feet for hours and hours, but there was such electric energy going into the reception from all of Harry and Jaclyn's friends and family that the day only got better.

Here’s a good trick - to photograph the dance, find the tallest person you have and get on their shoulders. I sat on my friend Amos’ shoulders to get this shot - he's 6'5" - while he kept dancing. I suggest a helmet for safety.

There is nothing more beautiful than watching people celebrate people they love.

It was a joy and an honor to be a part of Harry and Jaclyn's day!
