Photography has been a passion of mine since I found an old polaroid in my parent's hall closet as a kid. I've always loved to document, and I love to feel every experience I have to the fullest. As I grew up, I traveled and became a journalist. Photography became a way for me not only to report, but it continued to be a way for me to experience the world.
I've since turned to wedding photography and portraiture, which allows me to use the same skills — observation and intuition — to capture what I believe are the most authentic moments and interactions in people's lives.
What I didn't get to do before is create an experience in order to document it. That is one of my most favorite aspects of my current work. Below are images from an engagement session I did recently at San Francisco's Sutro Baths. I had wanted to shoot at the Baths for a long time, but I knew it would be insanely crowded at sunset, so I invited this adorable couple to have their session at sunrise. It was one of the most beautiful sessions I have had, and these two are the sweetest so we had a great time.
It was important to me not only to capture the scenery, but also get some of the subtly sweet interactions between them, so we scaled some rocks and I got up close and personal for a few shots.
After spending the early morning down in the Baths, we decided to hike up the nearby trail to Land's End, which has spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge. They changed their clothes, and we got two completely different looks in the same session.
The best part of the whole thing was how comfortable they both got with me and in front of the camera throughout the course of the session. I am shooting their wedding in Placerville, California in June and since we had this awesome mini-adventure together, I know they will have complete confidence in me on the big day. And now I have two new friends, to boot!
