Love is such a powerful and beautiful thing. Capturing the love of a couple on their wedding day is by far one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had and it's what initially pushed me to start Ashley Lewis Photography.

Ashley Lewis Photography based out of rural South Dakota and serves the midwest region for wedding & lifestyle photography. Not only do I work with couples for their wedding & engagement photos, but I also shoot seniors, families and newborns. I would describe my style as clean, simple & timeless. I feel like my work highlights the real life moments in the best possible way.

I've been a full time portrait photographer for over 5 years. I received a Business Associate's Degree in Business with a minor in Professional Digital Photography from Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD. I'm also a member of Professional Photographers of America and shoot with Canon products.

One of my favorite things is to make people laugh. I feel like laughter is the quickest way for a person to feel comfortable with you as the photographer. My goal is to always give my clients a fun, light-hearted and relaxed experience. No client should ever have to worry about doing anything other than being themselves and having a great time!

Carter & Jenni's wedding is one of my absolute favorites. The couple, the light, the details, everything was perfect. I've known Jenni since high school. She is absolutely gorgeous inside and out and Carter is the perfect match for her, so sweet and always making her laugh. Their relationship in itself is fun to experience.

A little bit about me.... I'm married to my favorite guy in the world. He has been so supportive of my journey as a business owner and I couldn't do it without him. We have a very energetic fur-baby named Kooper, a lab/husky mix who is a great editing buddy for me. I absolutely love coffee, traveling, trying new food and doing the job of my dreams! Thank you all for reading and enjoy your day!

Hello! Five years ago, I began photography as just a hobby. As my skills developed, I turned my love of the art into a small business to serve my hometown of Cheraw, South Carolina.

IMG_1539-1-2-1-2 Photography became one of my favorite things to do in my spare time when I was pursuing my teaching degree at Newberry College. I especially loved taking landscape and architectural photos. Once I began my career as an educator, I had to put photography on the backburner. However, after having my son in 2010, I renewed my love of taking photos. During the first year of my son’s life I realized how much I enjoyed portrait photography. I began to truly see the importance of capturing memories to last a lifetime.

After a couple years of self-teaching and practice with family and friends, I found the proper balance that allowed me teach and have a small photography business. That’s when my passion began to thrive. I often tell my clients that I live vicariously through them. I did not have a professional photographer take my engagement, wedding, maternity, or newborn photos. I depended on family and friends for those pictures, and it was a decision I heavily regret.

Special moments require quality photos, hence, when I take photos for my clients, I try to give my best effort as if it were my own personal photos.

I consider myself a portrait/event photographer. I absolutely love natural lighting. When shooting outdoors, I am willing to get covered in dirt, leaves, and debris in an effort to achieve the perfect angle or shot. Besides taking great photos, one my biggest priorities during a shoot is to make sure my clients feel comfortable.

The task of having to choose one of my favorite wedding photo shoots was not as easy one. However, I decided to spotlight the wedding of Troy and Emalee Spencer. I selected their special day because their photos encompass all that I want my photos to present: emotion, personality, and detail. I believe the photos reflect true love, happiness, and careful attention to creating an atmosphere to match.

Capturing Stories of Heart & Soul

A diamond in the rough is how I see the world. I look through my lens and words come to mind, from each wave that washes ashore to embrace the grains of sand that provides me my sanctuary, to the gurgles and giggles of little angels, to the quiet stolen unseen moment between a bride and her groom as they begin their journey to forever. I believe in each one of us lies dormant untapped possibilities; I believe in every choice we make we can choose to tap into our unlimited possibilities and to see the world as an unlimited source of brilliance I believe in capturing the heart & soul of your story.

While all my sessions are dear to me as I watch love unfold in every session, this Wedding was one in particular very dear to my heart. I chose to photograph my best friends wedding day instead of be a bridesmaid.

I went back and forth between wanting to be part of her special day or capture it. I must say I am very glad I chose to capture her day because I was able to give her something she will cherish for always, her story captured in time.

I am a storyteller. I am an artist. I am a sister, Auntie and doggie mommy to silly Jax. I live to capture stories as they unfold naturally and as they are surrounded by the natural light that dances, twirls and falls just so to help me paint true natural beauty, inside and out. My studio is the world around us, capturing moments, natural smiles, and natural expressions. I will do whatever it takes to capture the very essence of an emotion, whether it is a stolen glance of undying devotion, a ripple of contagious laughter, a blazing sunset, a majestic mountain terrain, or a new days promising sunrise.

This is her story. This is the Story of their Love. Captured.

I have learned that the ultimate happiness in life is to do what makes you smile, because life is a gift. Photography makes me smile. To capture a moment in a photograph that will last a lifetime and beyond is something very rare and special to each individual. Capturing stories is what makes my heart sing. At the end of the day our lives are a compilation of moments past, moments present, and of moments yet to happen. And to encompass them in a photograph enables us to treasure that moment with us forever. It allows us to pass on our life legacy and to pass on insights for generations..

So smile, shine, and tell your {Story} <3
