As save the date cards have become more popular, etiquette for the cards has also become important. Here are a few guidelines when it comes to your save the date cards!

Do I have to send out save the date cards?

It depends on your wedding. Most send out save the date cards if it is a destination wedding, on a holiday or if you just want to give your guests a heads up on the date. If you have a short engagement or there aren't going to be many out of town guests you dont need to send one out.

How early should I send out a save the date card?

As a general rule you should start spreading the word about 6 months prior to the wedding. That gives guests time to make travel arrangements, ask for days off for work and save some money.

What information should be included on my save the date?

Generally speaking you should include the bride and groom's names, the date and the city/state where the wedding will take place. It is common to also include a wedding website address if you have one. I would stray away from putting specific addresses of locations or times as in 6 months the info may change. As well as that information will be included on your formal invitation.
