Aloha! My name is Fawn and I’m the wedding coordinator behind Maile Maui Weddings, a service that is dedicated to planning intimate weddings, elopements, and vow renewals on the beautiful island of Maui. We got our start when professional photographer Mariah Milan noticed many of her clients were planning their own small beach weddings and reaching out to her for advice and recommendations. Seeing a need to focus on couples who were only inviting their nearest and dearest or even had no guests at all, and giving them the same attention to detail and high quality wedding coordination that they could expect to receive if they were having a larger event, Maile Maui Weddings was born.
Tanja & Mike's wedding captured by Mariah Milan
One of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process is getting to know the couple - how they met, how their love blossomed, how they got engaged, and why they decided to get married on Maui. I’ve been blessed to meet the sweetest couples and hear some pretty amazing love stories.
Tanja and Mike met by chance when he was traveling throughout Europe and stopped in Slovenia, where Tanja is from. Tanja, being the friendly, welcoming person she is, offered to play tour guide and sparks flew. After spending a few fun days together, they lost touch until Mike returned to Slovenia several years later. Not wanting to let an opportunity slip by this time, they took a leap and made a long distance relationship work, meeting each other every few months at various destinations in Europe and the U.S.
After their intimate beach wedding, Tanja and Mike wanted to get romantic pictures among different scenery and they trusted us to pick the location. Mariah and I took them to a dramatic lava rock landscape where the dark rocks were contrasted by a gorgeous sunset.
Weiting and Wing Lok were classmates in Singapore when they were 17 years old but didn’t become a couple until three years later. Their love survived being apart for three years across four different time zones as they relocated several times for school and work. Inspired by this, I made a sign to commemorate their journey and worked with Wing Lok to include all the important places in the right order as a surprise to Weiting.
Ilian and Eddie celebrated 25 years of marriage with a Maui vow renewal surrounded by their children and close family members. Ilian and I planned for a year and I got to know what a devoted wife, mother, and teacher she is. It rained right before the ceremony and there was actually a short downpour during the ceremony, but no one let the weather get to them. The day overflowed with love and joy and a spectacular double rainbow lit up the sky.
I love a challenge, so last minute elopements and special requests are always fun to pull off. Cecilia and Chris were visiting Maui when the idea to turn their vacation into an elopement and honeymoon hit. Their wedding, attended by their two kids, was planned in a couple days.
Jessica and Lester’s elopement is one I will never forget. We had less than three weeks to plan, and in our first conversation, Jessica said she had always adored piglets and really wanted one to be there on her wedding day. Turns out, pigs don’t stay small for very long, so it took some time to track down a piglet. Since the piglet was still at the pet store, we couldn’t bring him to the ceremony, but Jessica was thrilled to play and get some photos with little Morley before she and Lester tied the knot.
Jessica also wanted fun trash the dress photos underwater and at the beach. We went to four different locations to make it all happen. The smiles on their faces made our efforts all worth while.
