I’m Kaylie with Kaylie Mills Photography. Today I would love to share an engagement session I did not too long ago. This photo shoot is special to me and a favorite of mine for many reasons. The main reason is that the lovely bride to be in this session is one of my dear friends. She, by the mercy of God, had a heart transplant just four years prior to this photo shoot. Now here she is healthy, strong, beautiful, and about to get married (she is married now). Her, now husband, who is patient, kind, and loves her more than himself couldn’t be more perfect for her.

It was such a beautiful day. We hiked the Wichita mountains in Oklahoma, which is a new favorite spot of mine. This place makes you feel as though you have stepped out of Oklahoma (for just a second). There was sunsets, dancing, laughing, wind, and love everything you need for a perfect photo shoot. The more I shoot the more I fall in love with the natural side of photography. I love natural light whether it’s a stunning sunset,that last bit of blue light before the sun hides away until morning, or a soft glow of window light; I love it all. I have found myself drawn to the in between moments like when a groom makes his bride laugh, or when the wind blows and someone bushes the hair from their face. You know those moments that you couldn’t recreate no matter how hard you tried? Those are the ones I cherish the most.

Ultimately I strive for my clients to get comfortable and have fun in front of my camera. When a session feels more like two people just hanging out and being in love, and I'm just there to document it, that is when I get my favorite shots. Thats exactly what this session was and it was fun.

I fall in love with each wedding as it happens. Its’ so hard to talk about just one because each couple we have had the pleasure to work with has been so sweet and fun. Each wedding becomes more inspiring than the next. I embrace the diversity of each event. The most recent wedding we photographed was the most fly by the seat of your pants, laid back one to date. It was an intimate wedding of just 35 people, no bridal party and ended midday after a fantastic brunch.

Lisa and Ray got ready in their vintage farmhouse in the country. Lisa prepped while Ray worked on his souped up Model A. Then Ray made breakfast and coffee for Lisa. She went upstairs to change while he greeted a few neighbors that game over to write "just married" on his Model A. We had their first look out in front of their house on a quiet country road. Just the two of them in a tender moment together. Lisa and Ray's two dogs Ozzy and Lucy barked around them and ran. They jumped in the Model A, and we drove down Michigan Ave all the way to the Belle Isle Conservatory designed by Albert Kahn. The ceremony was short and sweet, and they had a lovely champagne toast in the garden outside the conservatory. Lisa, Ray and I then did a handful of portraits on the Island and then whisked off to Selden Standard a fabulous new restaurant in Detroit. They dined in the back yard on two long tables, had a brief speech and enjoyed the afternoon together. The cake and sweets table were beautiful, and the details were outstanding.

I am a full-time photographer that specializes in weddings and film. When I’m not shooting a wedding, you can find me on a movie set working as a still photographer on television and film. I am proud to say I am a member of the International Cinematographers Guild. I love making everything look and feel like an editorial spread and take pride in working closely with the client to achieve this goal. I take a limited amount of weddings each year because quality over quantity is my thing. I want to make your wedding a work of art because making art is what I love. I own a french bulldog named Ruthie, who keeps me in stitches and is one of the most photographed and spoiled dogs I know.

Hi, friends! I'm Rachel Richard from Rachel Richard Photography. I'm a Wedding and Engagement Photographer/Love Story Teller from Indiana. I’ve always been drawn to epic stories - stories told through novels, on the silver screen, through song lyrics and especially through photographs. Moments have meaning. They hold everyday love stories that are begging to be told.

I want the way that I approach wedding and engagement photography to make the viewer watch with baited breath as if something holy was unfolding before them. I want you to remember how it felt to be held in your fiancé’s arms, to remember the words they whispered in your ear and that intense racing heartbeat you felt deep inside your chest.

These moments aren’t fancy or staged. Many of them are quiet and unfettered by glamorous surroundings or activities. But make no mistake… They ARE extraordinary moments.

My focus is real, lasting, everyday, ordinary love. I capture feelings for future generations to witness. They’ll be able to hold a photograph of their parents or grandparents up and say, “This… This is where I come from. I’m here because of their legacy of love.”

Wedding days are important to me but beautiful, healthy marriages are even better. Long after the guests are gone and the cake has been eaten, you’ll have each other and you’ll have photographs. And when the hard days come, because undoubtedly they will, you’ll be able to look back at your photos and you’ll be able to remind yourselves what you are fighting for. That this is where your relationship began. This is where your marriage was born. That this was the start of your own legacy of love.

…real love doesn’t just exist in fairytales. It can happen in real life, too.

…real love is hard work but very much worth the effort.

…dating and flirting with your mate shouldn’t end after the wedding.
