• Nyhus Events, Stress Free Wedding Planning

Hello everyone! I want to thank Basic Invite for giving me a chance to share on their blog. First off, a little bit about myself! My name is Callie Nyhus and I got married almost three years ago to my wonderful husband, Isaac. I have been planning weddings ever since! I enjoy relaxing at home, reading, drinking coffee, and watching FRIENDS. I also enjoy making lists, planning events, weddings, and vacations, and staying productive.

Today, I wanted to share about a particular wedding that I was a part of during the 2017 Wedding Season. For this particular wedding, I was the Day-Of-Coordinator (Sideplug: A day-of-coordinator is the most important and valuable person you can hire for your wedding day! You should not be stressed on your wedding day!).

A few weeks before the wedding, I met with the bride and we went over all of the details of her wedding from vendors, family, traditions, etc. Beyond that, we sat down and had some coffee! I truly enjoy spending time with my brides! Over the next few weeks, we met a couple more times, texted about various things, and put together the schedule for the weekend, and for the wedding day specifically. I also contacted all of her vendors to make sure they had everything they needed and that everyone was ready for the big day.

The day before the wedding, I arrived at Palouse Ridge Farms to help with some set up and to run the rehearsal. The rehearsal is so important, especially for those family members (ahem, gentlemen) that can sometimes forget where to stand, what to say, how to hold their hands, etc. It is also really important for the bride and groom to feel comfortable and prepared for their wedding day.

At the rehearsal, I handed out all of the schedules to the wedding party and family and made sure everyone knew what their role was on the day of so that there was no confusion!

The day of the wedding, I arrived around 10am to start working. Along with the team of the

bride's family and friends, I helped decorate her venue so that everything looked perfect. We hung sunflowers on her wedding arch, we set up glasses and silverware and table centerpieces. We set up the ceremony space outside and made sure everything was beautiful.

While working on set up, I also helped the DJ get his equipment set up, as well as making sure that the bride was happy and doing anything and everything I could to make sure that she was having a fun, relaxed, wedding day.She was so beautiful on her wedding day! Throughout the day, I helped with the photoshoot, directing guests, and running the ceremony. At this wedding, I also helped with some of the audio during the ceremony.

I also love to take an assistant with me so that if I need to be, I can be in two places at once.

During this wedding, I had the absolute pleasure of having my mom as an assistant! There is no person I would rather spend a whole day coordinating a wedding with! (Sorry Isaac! <3)

For me, it is honestly an honor to be allowed to coordinate or plan someone's wedding. What an absolute joy to see their radiant faces after saying I do! This bride and groom were exuding joy all day. Their reception was beautiful!

It was truly an honor to coordinate this wedding last June! If you have any questions about myservices or booking me as your planner/coordinator, feel free to shoot me an email at callie@nyhusevents.com. You can see more about me at nyhusevents.com!

    Thank you for reading!

  • Little Loo Photography

When I started my business in 2011 I really dove into so many different types of photography and as I did so, I found my style evolve and change, and the things that I was drawn to and passionate about really became quite evident in my work. I do have to say that in my early years there was a period of time that I swore off family sessions. I can remember finishing the busy season in the fall of 2014 saying that I would never take another family session!

How did I go from feeling this way to becoming so passionate about families?

  • Finding a photographer that your family can grow with

When I opened the doors to my photography business in 2003, I knew I wanted to focus on photographing kids. I'd spent 10 years studying photography, assisting professionals and producing commercial photo shoots for companies like Pottery Barn, and capturing moments with children, while they navigate through the world, brought me the most joy. So it was natural that when I opened a photography business that it would focus on kids and family. What I didn’t expect was the joy I would feel from the relationships and friendships I have formed with so many clients over the years. It is such an honor to be able work with them each year and watch their kids grow. What a privilege it has been to help document and celebrate their stories as they evolve.
