    My Story

Hi there! My name is Crystal Allen, I'm a natural light wedding photographer based in Southern Indiana serving the Greater Louisville area. I spent 2 years in front of the camera doing small modeling jobs here and there right out of high school and realized, at a whole 5foot2inches, modeling wasn't really going to go anywhere big for me.

After I was married, a photographer I'd previously shot with asked me to do another shoot with him in my wedding gown in exchange for a camera. He followed through and I was the proud owner of a Canon 20D (which was like gold to me at the time!). An instant love was found and so, my story behind the camera begins. In 2009 I did one mentor session with that photographer (who is, sadly, no longer shooting) and hit the ground running.2

    My Why

Photography is so much more than just 'capturing memories' to me. Dementia has made an appearance in my family. My grandmother has been fully affected by this disease and my uncle, at age 62, is now battling dementia as well. My memory has always been fleeting and I have very few memories from my early adult life. That terrifies me. But photographs... Through photographs I can remember. And so my entire reason for shooting. The memories, The moments, The feelings, The emotions. While they are so fleeting, with this camera I'm able to memorialize every little detail. The tiny curls, the father's tears, the wide-eyed innocent smiles, the pristine white dress. With this camera nothing is forgotten.

This gorgeous wedding was on June 25, 2016 and you'd think it would've been scorching... well, it was! But regardless of the relentless heat, Justin & Andrea  were the perfect bride/groom duo at the perfect, private venue on what ended up being the perfect day. This is their wedding story Justin & Andrea's love for each other is the most prominent thing that stood out about their wedding... But without these images, what might be forgotten? The details? The look on his face during the First Look? The way the sun fell that day? Invest time into finding a wedding photographer for your big day that is enthusiastic about helping you remember everything about your wedding, through images, for the rest of your life.

    xoxo Crystal

Hello! I'm Kendra of Little Blue Bird Photography. (Nice to meet you). I am one half of a husband and wife photography team, the main photographer and editor here at Little Blue Bird.

Our goal is to tell a love story documentary style with unique evocative photos. Once the wedding is over, the dress is hanging in the closet, and the flowers have wilted, and no one can remember the flavor of the cake - but the photos will live on. Friends, children, and grandchildren will look at them for years to come. This is why choosing a wedding photographer is so important and why we take things so seriously when meticulously capturing a big day,

(This is where we come in.)

We are flexible, easy-going, and are up for anything! Our photography is intimate, personal, very detail-oriented and creative. We like to use natural light to create beautiful, sometimes dramatic images.

I have loved photography since middle school when I got my very first digital camera for Christmas. My pictures were awful - but I swear I have come a long way from taking black and white pictures of latches on garage doors. I love framing a shot. I love telling a story with an image. I started shooting weddings in 2011 and have grown so much since then.

My favorite shoot so far (this changes just about every time I do a new shoot) is a wedding from this past March that had to quickly be put together in under three months after the bride found out she was pregnant.

What was going to be a large wedding weekend in a camp and lots of guests in the fall turned into a wedding of 28 people at a small inn on a lake.

What I love about these photos is that, since there were so few guests, the bride and groom and I were allowed much more quiet time together than usual.

The photos reflect this kind of intimacy all around. I loved that, rather than a competition for most burlap or prettiest handmade details, this wedding was about two people who love each other.

We were even able to get a large group shot of all the wedding party and guests together, which was a first for me.

AN AFTERNOON SPENT WITH AN AMAZING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

    DSC_0114-Edit

The air of excitement in photographing a high school senior is always contagious.   The hope in their eyes, the smile on their face & confidence in their stance is unmistakable.  They have achieved so much in the last 4 years.  This is their time to shine.

I love celebrating them, just as they are.  I encourage all of my high school clients to wear what they love, what they feel most comfortable in.  I encourage them to dress up, dress down, bring accessories or keep it simple.  I ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE THEMSELVES

When scheduling a senior session, I talk with my clients about some of their "favorite things."  We discuss their favorite styles, places, hobbies, etc.  This allows me to customize their sessions around who they really are.  I feel this is a very important aspect in helping them feel comfortable in their own skin.  AFTER ALL, THEY HAVE EARNED IT.

During the photo session, I make it a priority for my clients to feel comfortable & most importantly to have fun!  My sessions are real, honest & filled with laughter.  During a typical session, you can catch me running around, climbing up on things, laying on the ground & doing whatever I can to put my clients at ease while achieving those custom shots to ensure that their photos are truly unique, just as they are.

I feel that the senior year of high school is a life experience to be remembered & treasured.

One of the main reasons I am so passionate about ensuring each senior session is unique is so when they look back on their senior photos they are reminded of exactly who they were at that particular time in their lives; evoking wonderful memories to be shared with others.

As a child, I remember looking at photographs with my grandparents and feeling their emotions as they shared special photographs of their younger years.  I feel those are timeless memories that should be treasured.  I feel that through photographs amazing stories can be  remembered & retold.

I am honored to have been asked by Basic Invite to write a blog about a recent session.  Thank you for taking the time to read AN AFTERNOON SPENT WITH AN AMAZING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR.  I am passionate about my career in photography & I am grateful for the opportunity to share the stories of peoples' treasured memories through my photographs.
