Willow Baby Studios||Boston Family Photographer

One of the best parts of my job is when my annual families come in for their session. I am so filled with joy by the families I have the honor to photograph year after year. I love seeing the kiddos grow and change each session, and catching up with the parents as we herd their crew to our session location from the parking lot. It's so cool when a kid will reference something from a past session - a silly game I encouraged them to play, or a goofy word or name I used with them.

I describe my aesthetic as “guided lifestyle”. I work with families to get into comfortable "poses" or play certain activities/games that are highly photogenic, and then I encourage them to all have fun and enjoy each other. I will take some posed photos to be sure, but my favorites tend to be the more active ones – where the kids are playing games or being silly with their parents or siblings. I associate certain times of the year with specific families, and some seasons do not feel complete until I've photographed them. I started photographing this family in 2013, when their girls were 5, 3 and 1. I’ve now had six sessions with them and I get so mushy-happy when I think about the part they play in supporting my business and the part I play in bringing them treasured photos every year. All the other families and kiddos I'm about to share with you below have been my subjects for no less than three photo sessions!  Last fall, a five year old Nick showed up to his fifth annual session bursting with such personality – he brought two dolls along with him, and was wearing a pair of glittery silver sneakers. Near the end of the session he made one of the best comments I’ve ever gotten at a shoot. He looked at me for a moment, and then said in a very matter of fact way, “Miss Kaylee, you have a camera in your heart”.And that is a pretty perfect summery of why I do this work. To make real connections and relationships with families over time, and to capture for them the changes between one year to the next. I know that at times they may lose track of how beautiful their family is, (amidst the chaos and exhaustion of raising little humans!) and I love that I am able to help remind them.
