Hi, I'm April! I am the owner and photographer at Trio Photography and Design in central Indiana. I love working with seniors, but I have a lot of parents ask, why do I need to hire another photographer? Why can't we just have the one that takes the year book pictures take them? Here is what I tell them: I know seniors. I adore them. I strive every single day to capture my senior photography clients being exactly who they are. Goofy, slick, studied, athletic, stylish, bookish, outdoorsy. I get it all, and, as a result, my seniors get portraits they absolutely adore.
I don't want my seniors to look back on their portraits and think, "That doesn't even look like me!" or "Mine look like everyone else's!" I want my seniors to look back and think, "Man, I really love these portraits. See kids, this is what I was like in high school and what my passions were." I can assure you, nothing about my senior portraits say anything about who I was as a senior....NOTHING.
So how do I accomplish this? By talking to them, getting to know them, finding out what they love, what they don't love, what classes they take, what they want to do after high school, what their favorite bands are, who their best friends are what they like to do with their free time. I meet face to face, usually over coffee because....coffee, with the senior and their parent/guardian (and a lot of times a BFF or sibling) and just talk. Consequently, I get to know them, their dynamics and what they are expecting from a senior portrait session.
Emma | 2018 Seniors
I recently had and AMAZING portrait session with a fabulously gorgeous senior. She is a musician. She sings like an angel, plays piano and has the most amazing pout I have ever seen.
I loved making Emma realize how absolutely gorgeous she is. Whether she is doing her thing on the keys and singing, or just being herself at an old barn in the middle of the country showing off her granddad's cowboy boots.
Seniors don't have to be the top jock, top brain, top singer and performer or even the top coaster. They just have to be themselves, whomever that may be.
Hugs and high fives,
April Grabbe | Senior Photographer
