My Favorite Wedding?

My Favorite Wedding?  If I had to make a choice, I'd have to say a combination of my two older daughters' weddings.  In fact, planning their nuptials is what got me started in the beautiful business of wedding planning. When our first daughter got engaged, by husband said, "Let's get a wedding planner." To which I replied, "I'm not paying good money for something the girls and I can do ourselves."  BIG MISTAKE.

Fact, and this should have been obvious to me, but wasn't; you can't be in two or three places at once.  No matter how organized and skilled you are, you,  just,  can't.  (Below a photo with my four daughters - (photo: Hannah Rachael).

While my first daughter, Maggie's, wedding was beautiful, there were things that went wrong that didn't need to.  Had I had someone on site, (i.e. a wedding planner),  to deal with issues at the venue while I was busy enjoying hair, make-up and photos, I would have been saved some grief.  Did the guests know a few things had gone awry?  No...but I did...  Here I am with daughter Maggie. Ok...you're probably curious at this point. What went wrong?  Well, one thing, when I was getting my hair and make-up done, the bride's and bridesmaid's personal flowers were being delivered.  But guess what?  The florist forgot the "tossing bouquet".  A "tossing bouquet" is a miniature bouquet that the bride "tosses" so she doesn't have to relinquish her own.  The lack of bouquet was discovered when my daughter innocently asked, "Mom, where's the bouquet I'm supposed to throw?"

No where,  that's where.  So frantically, I grabbed flowers from centerpieces, unwound the ribbon from a bridesmaid's bouquet to bind my makeshift "tossing bouquet" and thrust it into my daughter's hands. Did the guests see this?  No, thank God, but it made for a less than perfect "bouquet ceremony" for me.  But I still insist, it was a beautiful wedding (Two photos below: Stephen Wang).

And hey!  With a cake like this one, how could it be all bad?  I adored Maggie's cake.  It was, and still is, the prettiest wedding cake I've ever seen.

When my second daughter, Kathleen, was married, I had a planner.  But once again, I scrimped.  I only hired the planner for the reception.  No one was on site at the ceremony to give the important cues to the wedding party. For example: I was seated, waiting for my daughter to be escorted down the aisle by my husband, and they started walking well before the music!  I guess Kathleen was just so excited to be married.  Look how happy she is! The moral of this post? Weddings are expensive.  Don't you want someone to see that your very costly vision is executed?  Get the planner, and don't skimp.  You'll be glad you did.  My wish for you? To look as happy on your wedding day as the girls below.
