Max Patch Winter Engagement Shoot

Meg and Jacob's engagement shoot is one of my favorites of all time. The snow and freezing temperatures were equal parts lovely and equal parts hilarious to deal with. You should have seen us sharing my gloves. Thankfully they trust me, because at one point we were shooting on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

They chose Max Patch because he loves the mountains and she jokingly mentioned he would be so excited if we ended up with snow. Honestly, none of us could have predicted what we were going to round a corner and see. When we started the drive up the mountain the roads were clear.

Once we headed up the mountain we could see snow on the mountain tops and were crossing our fingers to have some at Max Patch. Then we rounded a corner and basically drove into Narnia. Suddenly, all of us were 100% willing to tough out the cold. These first few shots were on the side of the road, but you'd never know it. "I'm going to park here, just trust me," me. "We trust you," them.

I think their trust paid off.

Should you bring more than one outfit?

Personally, I'm always a fan of a quick outfit change mid-shoot just to add variety to the engagement session. I think Meg's decision to wear a dress on the mountain top was the right call. The wind billowing in it was one of my favorite parts of these photographs.

Just for fun, since this blog post was written for Basic Invite (a company I've been referring my clients to for the last three years) I used one of the images from this engagement shoot on one of the templates offered here, and look how lovely it is (that template can be found here - and was so easy to customize).
