Making Memories for Life

I’ve had a camera in my hands since I could remember. Of course way back then it was a hot pink Barbie film camera. I wanted to be just like my dad, from computers to photography. He used to own his very own studio. Like father like daughter, except my studio primarily consists of whatever nature has to offer.

My very first camera was a polaroid - I saved up all of my birthday money when I turned 10 to buy one. Eventually when I turned 17, I invested that year’s birthday money and an entire summer of working as a dishwasher into my very first Nikon D5000 DSLR. All of my guinea pigs *ahem* - I mean friends weren’t surprised since I always took hundreds of photos at birthday parties, school dances, in the hallways before class. You couldn’t pay me NOT to take photos. At first it was a hobby and I mostly took photos of flowers.

Flash forward a few years to the first time someone asked me to take their pictures. My friend wanted senior photos for the yearbook. I had zero idea how to properly take pictures of people. That was back in the summer of 2013.

I definitely feel over the years I’ve struggled to define my style. Who is TM Grey Photo? So I took a small step back from my business to focus on my skills, technical knowledge and the overall trends in photography today. I signed up for a few courses that really stuck out to me and felt they were exactly what I needed. Then I put the new skills to good use.

In early March I traveled to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to meet another photographer friend who had taken the same courses. It was just a practice session and it quickly became my favorite. I came out feeling so confident because I finally was starting to achieve the look that I wanted. I keep going back to the photos saying to myself, “I really took this?” It didn’t look like it belonged to me, that I had truly taken a photo. New knowledge is like a magic potion. I have never felt more confident in myself and my ability to achieve the results I want while making my clients feel happy and beautiful.

TM Grey Photo’s slogan is Making Memories for Life, and I truly, 100% mean that. I LOVE photography and I want to do this for the rest of my life. However, I also want my photos to hang on the walls of my clients homes, and posted to the profile photo. I want my clients to know that I am capturing their natural beauty, and I want them to feel just as confident as myself when I’m taking the photo. I want to give them a lifetime of memories that they can cherish and pass down through generations to come. There is nothing more satisfying than making someone smile and capturing it for eternity.
