Hi! My name is Alyssa Dyer. I am the owner and photographer at A Love in Focus Photography. I am based out of Austin, TX but also love traveling all over to shoot weddings and portraits. I fell in love with photography during my sophomore year of high school while taking a 35mm photojournalism course. During my senior year of high school, I found myself spending a lot of time in the dark room developing photos. This is when I made the decision to major in photography in college.
I went to Texas State University and in 2011 received my BFA in Fine Art Photography. While in school I stayed more on the artistic side of photography, shooting a lot of construction/conceptual based work. At the time I didn't really care to work with people as my main subject, but instead I created small whimsical settings that you wouldn't see in real life. It wasn't until after college that I decided I wanted to pursue wedding photography. Wedding photography has brought me into other people's worlds and allowed me to tell their stories in a visually beautiful way. Some of the people I have met, both photographers and clients in this industry are now people I can call friends. It really is amazing having the opportunity to be part of people's best day ever.
My style has progressed in the past couple of years. I started out my editing process using only Photoshop CS 5 - No presets or actions, just basic editing skills that I had learned in school. It wasn't until I discovered Lightroom and VSCO presets that my style really came to life. I have always been in love with the Pacific North West. I love the colors and tones that you can get from the cloudy, diffused light. I live in Texas where the sun shines 90% of the year. The general style here is "light and airy," but I try to offset that look by bringing in the dark and moody feel to my photos. I feel like it is a romantic look which is ideal for wedding photos.
I chose a few photos from my sister's bridal session and also a few from her wedding. These photos definitely depict my style. These particular photos mean a lot to me. I was honored to photograph my big sister getting married to the love of her life as well as photograph her in her wedding dress, all dolled up. Those two moments were definitely my favorite thing I've photographed to date.
I started A Love in Focus Photography in 2013 and I have shot large weddings as well as small, intimate ceremonies. Something I focus on is working with couples to get exactly what they want with the budget that they have. I try to create an environment where you can let loose and be yourself in front of the camera. My home might be in Texas but that doesn't mean I won't shoot your wedding if you live in a different state. My goal is to eventually travel for all of my weddings.
