Leslie Crane Photography - Senior in the Sunshine

Ask any serious photographer who shoots pictures outdoors what time he or she wants to do your session, and I would bet LOTS of money that you'll hear the response "one hour before sunset."

I know that's what I always say when I am asked that question!  Harsh, midday sun is a "no-thank-you."  Give me that soft, golden hour glow any day.

BUT... this past fall my schedule got a little away from me and somehow I ended up shooting this senior girl's session between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on a bright, sunny day.  And... I couldn't be happier about that!  I actually loved embracing the sunshine, and I loved working with this senior girl.

It turned out to be fun to look at light in a new way, and at times I decided to embrace the overhead sun.  (And sometimes I hid from it!)

Bright sunshine aside, this session, in most other ways, is pretty typical of what I love to do most with my senior clients.  Andrea is a serious classical flute player (I photograph a lot of musicians) and an extremely intelligent, adventurous young woman.  I love interesting light, color, and environment, and I love photographing musicians out in nature.

I think that full sun was perfect for her style and personality.  And I loved having the challenge of finding and using different kinds of lighting on this beautiful fall day.

A little bit about me: I am a family, senior, and headshot photographer in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.  I love to shoot outdoors, in the studio, and in my clients' homes equally - anywhere that people want to be.  I am so grateful to my clients for being more than just clients, but friends.

I truly love what I do, because I love the people I get to work with.

And who wouldn't love a girl who wore J.S. Bach socks for her senior pictures?

This particular session was so much fun, I think I'll schedule a few more during the hot midday sun again - on purpose!
