Jillian Banks| Backyard Photography

MA-8Hey there! I'm Jillian Banks of Backyard Photography.  I chose that name for my business because I love the outdoors and I love using natural light with all its glory.  I started photography way back when in high school but was a late bloomer and didn't start doing it professionally until about 3 years ago. I think people choose me for not only the way I use light but my laid back personality.  I'm a silly person and I'll do anything to make my clients laugh so that I can capture their true smile.

MA-7 I tried to pick just one of my favorite sessions but that was too hard so I picked the most traumatizing one that produced the best results!  My go-to location are the peach orchards in Gilbert, SC.  They are stunning in the Spring, beautiful and shady in the Summer and hauntingly amazing in Winter.

When I met Matt and Amy, they were high school sweethearts from Charlotte, NC where the wedding will take place Spring of this year.  They had one more semester of college left and they love to travel. In North Carolina, orchards and fields are scarce there in the city so they were in for a treat and volunteered to come to me for their engagement photos.  They followed behind me until we reached our destination and my stomach went into my throat...

My beautiful orchard was gone and in its place were large clumps of mutilated trees.  First I panicked, then I laughed...went back to panic and wanted to vomit but this couple thought that it was the funniest thing and wanted to stay right there and do their photos...so we did and it was a great decision!! MA-13 MA-6 MA-9 MA-10They totally nailed it!!  My favorite images are the natural unposed ones.  I let my couples (or families) just sit and talk and capture the best moments between them.  I let Matt and Amy just do what they do naturally and it was amazing.

We also did some shots that are not so traditional at Amy's request.  We took advantage of the giant mounds of mutilated peach trees and turned it in to something from a horror movie.

I had such a wonderful time with this couple and an even better one on their wedding day!  I treat all my couples the same; like I've known them my whole life. I try to connect with them and get to know their story and how they met.
