 Should I Hire A Photographer?

There is never a wrong time to hire a photographer

That is the simple answer. Who wouldn't want a professional documenting all the important milestones in their lives? My family has one, since I'm always the unofficially designated person taking the photos. But guess what? If you do that to your family you'll always have one person missing from your photos! My kids will look back at all the photo albums I've made for them and wonder if they had a mother at all. It looks like my husband was a single father. Except for the handful of candids I make it into, usually because my own dad (our own family photographer back in the day) is visiting and grabs the camera out of my hands.

But what is the best way to preserve your family memories? Photos of course. And I don't mean the ones on your iphone. Are you going to pass your iphone down to the next generation to share photos of their mothers, grandmothers, etc when they were little? Of course not. And very likely, the iphone will be replaced by the time they are older with something more high tech, so those photos on your phone won't be viable forever.   But a photo album will. An artistic portrait in a gorgeous double mounted frame will. A favorite image printed on a hand stained bamboo mount will.  So what are you waiting for? Find your favorite professional photographer and book a session!

Maternity Photo Session

Maternity sessions are of course one of the most popular times to hire a photographer for professional portraits.

Such a magical time, so much excitement, and most of all, if it's your first child, so you have time to schedule it and get it done!! :)  That's probably one of the many reasons maternity sessions happen more often than other sessions.....

Newborn Portrait Session

Then of course, quick to follow, is the newborn session. One of my favorites, although certainly also one of the most difficult. It takes about 4 times the amount of time to get it done. It's stroke-inducing hot in the house (per my request), and you must have patience to get those little babies into position and keep them there. If done correctly, the mama gets a 4 hour reprieve and has the chance to rest, catch up on emails, or do 9 loads of laundry. So really, this photoshoot should be everyones favorite!

The Sitter Session

I said newborns are one of my favorite ages to photograph, but I can't forget about the "sitters". This is around 5-9 months. This age is so stinking cute! They love to smile, they are so curious, so they just stare right into my lens and give these big toothless grins. A mom or dad placed right behind me does wonders to crack them up and get those priceless photos. It's best to capture this age when they can sit unassisted, but before they can take off walking, or even crawling, if they are fast crawlers. So here are a few reasons when you have a sitter, it would be worth hiring a photographer....look at what you'd be missing!

Family Photo Sessions

Not to be forgotten, all the cuties in between the sitters and the seniors.  This age group gives us the opportunity to try  new things. Maybe a themed photo shoot is something you'd be interested in. Or maybe you have a family reunion and want to capture everyone together. There's an option to do a "day in the life" photojournalism photoshoot where your photographer would capture all the little daily things that happen between your family members...all those little things you never want to forget. And don't forget updating the family photo for holiday cards. Whatever big or small (or non) event is in your future, capturing portraits of your children is the best decision you can make, and photographers like me are always willing to play along and get those images you want.

The list goes on....I can always find a reason why it's a good time to hire a photographer! But I think the most important will always be this: you don't get these moments back. And you can't remember how it used to be, no matter that in the moment you tell yourself I'll NEVER forget this. You will. But a photograph can transport you back there instantly. You can't tell me that's not worth it. It is. And it always will be.  Hire a photographer once in a while and see what you think. You won't regret it.  :)

Beautiful pictures! Kim is an amazing photographer and so fun to work with. She took Senior pictures for both of my boys and I look forward to my daughter getting her Senior pictures done in a few years.

Good point about permanent photos (paper, framed) vs digital. I see a framed picture every day and rarely pull up the digital ones.
Great pictures by the way with interesting commentary.
