I know Green Screen is not traditional by any means. It is not something that many photographers are comfortable with. Yet it is almost entirely how I shoot. My background in visual effects is quite extensive as I started out in videography and not photography.
I started CCM Productions in 2009 as a videographer. I found that using Adobe’s After Effects program opened up doorways to editing that no other program could offer. Almost immediately I started finding clients requesting visual effects and green screen abilities. Most noteworthy, a movie producer asked me to create a scene in his feature film.
In 2015 I purchased my first DSLR. I had no intentions on becoming a full-time photographer. However, it became clear that applying my knowledge of visual effects to photos was much easier than videos. As a result, I have many more photo clients than I do video these days.
Using Green Screens and Continuous Lighting I am able to take concepts that would not normally be photographed and bring them to life. Green Screen makes taking photos of someone anywhere in the world possible. I also create photos that appear to have been taken in a portrait studio. Not having the limitation of only a few backdrops to choose from is quite handy when picking a backdrop that compliments the client.
I am able to create holiday photos any time of the year. I take families portraits in their own homes and you would never know they weren’t taken in a studio.
Using continuous lighting, and not a flash, is another advantage I enjoy having. Hence, my clients never see spots burned into their vision when I take a photo. It also controls where specific light is coming from and gives a more realistic look to the photographs.
I love the work I do. The extra time and work put into the photographs is well worth it when my clients love them. Most of all, I love that they come back for more! I enjoy creating images that are better each time we shoot. Therefore, I am always striving to be more creative.
In conclusion, I would encourage more photographers to learn about Green Screens and Continuous Lighting. It will probably be crazy at first but you might just find a new passion.
