It's All In The Details

I am a dreamer. I am a photographer. I am a runner. I am happiest when I am outdoors soaking in the sunshine, whether out in the fresh ocean air, between earthy forest walls, far-reaching open fields, or trails I find at my current back door. I have an innate longing to bottle up beauty and experiences to pour them out as joy to others and a remembrance of where I came from. We have control over our wellbeing and part of this is surrounding ourselves with beauty and inspiration in what we see every day. I love cultivating this kind of joy by creating photographs.

I live in Harrisburg, a small town right outside Charlotte, NC with my husband, Brian. You can often find us on long walks with our baby boy Royce trying to keep up with our toddler son, Braxton, or eating piles of watermelon in the backyard.

When I was married outside a rustic barn nearly seven years ago I put a lot of thought into the visual details that made up the experience for my friends + family. As wedding favors I collected enough vintage glasses for each guest to use and take one home. It made for an eclectic, colorful display at the entrance to the barn reception. My friends still talk about how they use their memorable glassware to this day. But, when I received my photos from my photographers I was disappointed to find no images of these specially curated glasses. In my own work I am now careful to craft thoughtful detail shots to include with my clients' portraits. These are gems that can be so easily forgotten over the years, yet they are what make up the big joyous picture of life events. These are what I love looking back on fondly, saying, "Oooh! Remember that?!"

This was one of my favorite wedding shoots. It was an outdoor ceremony in northern Ohio with rain threatening to downpour all day. I identified with Samantha, the bride, who dreamed of an outdoor ceremony. She debated all morning on Plan A or the less-spectacular Rain Plan. She ended up taking the risk and the clouds parted for just enough time for the couple to be married lakeside including a uniquely beautiful ceremonial foot washing. The best compliment I ever received for my work was from her mother, “Thank you for doing an amazing job. Your whole heart and soul went into their special day and that means so much to us.”
