Seattle Senior Photos with Tara Brown Photography

Senior year is full of exciting milestones and celebrations, and, call me biased, but senior portraits are my absolute fave. The young women I’m honored to photograph cherish this opportunity to commemorate this moment in their lives, show off their personal style, get pampered with professional hair and makeup, and have a blast. One of my favorite senior photo sessions from this past summer was with Ashley. While most of my seniors choose to have their photos in a park or somewhere with a ‘nature’ feel, Ashley opted for an urban senior portrait session in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle. Complete with graffiti walls and repurposed shipping containers, this industrial neighborhood offers endless backdrops and a unique vibe for a senior session that stands out from the crowd.

I am all about genuine smiles and getting my seniors to have fun during our shoots. Most of my seniors come to me a bit nervous about being photographed – other than selfies and the occasional family portrait, very few of them have ever had their own portraits taken! Ashley was no exception, which is why I especially value the time I have with my clients during hair and makeup to get to know each other better and chat about our plan for their photoshoot.Ashley came to her session with a pile of clothes, from which we procured several unique outfits that express her personality and also went perfectly with each of our various locations!  I always recommend to my girls that they bring a variety of outfits - casual outfits like jeans and a favorite top; a dress or skirt to get a bit fancier; and overall just focusing on outfits that they truly feel comfortable and beautiful wearing. In order to achieve the best senior photoshoot experience, you have to look and feel at the top of your game so your confidence shines through. Ashley may have started out a bit shy, but she quickly got the feel for how to follow my direction and fall naturally into different poses. Often graffiti is seen as a nuisance, but certain buildings in Seattle have commissioned or allowed artists to cover them with their artwork, and this is one of my favorites. Every few feet the scene changes and it creates a dynamic and vibrant backdrop for edgy senior portraits. I loved finishing Ashley's session against this wall because it's just as bright and interesting as she is.Want to chat about photographing high school seniors? Feel free to reach out!
