Planning a wedding means hours upon hours of researching, organizing, scheduling, and preparing for just one day of your life. And when that day finally arrives it flies by in an instant. So when Kristen asked me about a bridal portrait session on the beaches of Southeast Alaska, I couldn't say yes fast enough. Because honestly? After all that planning she deserved an hour of fun in her stunning J.Crew gown with the wind hitting her veil. For no one other than her, for no reason other than "why not."

Pro Tips: If you're considering a bridal portrait session (and I hope you are!), plan on booking it on the same day as your hair & makeup trial like Kristen did. Also, make sure your portrait photographer knows your wedding date so no sneak peeks get posted before your big day.

I'm Asia, and my job is awesome. I'm a portrait, wedding, and elopement photographer in Wrangell, Alaska. You hear a lot about photography as a way to preserve memories. Freeze time. Capture moments. But that's not the reason I'm a photographer. Because while I agree a photograph allows us to relive a wonderful thing that happened once, I believe it can also serve as a reminder that wonderful things happen every single day. A reminder that THIS is the moment you're in now, and it has the potential to be whatever you want it to be. This philosophy has driven me toward a style that focuses on the quiet, subtle, in-between moments. I hope to inspire my clients to be truly present in their lives, because when our simplest moments are acknowledged? That's when we're really living.

  • Summer's End Organic Editorial

20150826_9168Hi, I'm Kendra. I am 25 years old. I like coffee, organic food, art, family time, music, florals, and of course - taking pictures. On a normal afternoon, you would find me in my skinny jeans and a comfortable tee. I strive to live a big life full of love, beauty, and togetherness.20150826_895320150826_9276I think my passion for taking pictures comes from my fear of time - life goes by so quickly! So, I try to freeze those extra special moments. Wether I'm photographing a wedding or simply a family session, I am on the lookout for moments - the moments that you're experiencing something so sweet that your heart already misses it. 20150826_909220150826_903920150826_9009I find most of my inspiration from shooting in natural environments and having good light. I consider my style of photography to be journalistic or lifestyle. I like to catch my clients being themselves. I like create a rockin' Spotify playlist to set whatever mood we are trying to create, and we just have a great time. 20150826_907720150826_9142I am incredibly grateful for my photography business and the journey on which it has taken me. It's beautiful (and humbling) to look at my work from the past five years and see how much I've grown. I have been able to meet and work with so many fascinating clients, inspiring business owners, and fellow creatives. 20150826_9348Enough about me, how about I talk about this shoot for a bit. This shoot was simply inspired by nature. I wanted it to have an obtainable feel. We see countless weddings and editorials with elaborate design, and expensive frills. While all of that is lovely and inspiring, I wanted to create a shoot that featured true love and simplicity. 20150827_942320150826_9174My models, Danielle Matthews and Chad Miller are actually getting married this October! I chose them for the shoot for three reasons: One - they are both such beautiful people. Two - they love without holding back. Three - chad's killer beard. With good music and some bubbly, we set out to  create this organic editorial. 20150826_9183I can't leave out the other wonderful businesses that contributed to this shoot. Groom's neck tie, Bride's dress, cake, cuff links, tie clip, florals, hair20150826_921320150826_935220150827_939420150827_9453

  • Sweet Lemon Drop Photography

Hey there! My name is Erin Kelly, otherwise known as Sweet Lemon Drop Photography. I am 24 years young and have been shooting professionally for about four years. I stole my big brother’s camera when I was about six years old and haven’t put it down since. I still have a 5th Grade paper about “What Do You Want to Be When You Grow up?” And of course I wrote about how I wanted to be a photographer. I was always super observant of other people with their emotions and interactions with others. My siblings called me “starin’ Erin” for always getting caught up in watching other people.

Photography has always been a dream of mine, but through high school my dream slowly faded. I was worried I wouldn’t make any money and was told photography wasn’t a solid career path to have a successful future. As I was researching colleges and studying career options, something just didn’t feel right. I would still catch myself admiring other successful photographers and wishing that could be an option for me. All signed up at our local college, I thought I was ready to put photography aside as a little hobby. The first day of school came and past but I never showed up. At that moment I decided I wanted to be happy. As I realized the only way I could achieve happiness was with a camera in my hand.

I would have to say my favorite thing to shoot is couples who are madly in love. There’s literally nothing like it. "Don't shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like." - David Alan Harvey. I heard this quote about a year ago and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. When I shoot weddings and engagements, I try to ask the right questions to have them remember why we are there in the first place… to celebrate their love. Whether it’s their eyes that tear up from the sweet words they share or if they have a huge grin that they just can’t hold in any longer.. that is the raw moments I strive to capture.

This featured wedding wasn’t full of flowers and it wasn’t in a huge venue covered in décor. It just so happened to be raining almost the entire day and also one of the muggiest days I’ve ever shot in. But this wedding will probably be my most memorable. It’s not because of these things but because of the love they had for each other.  I’m sure when people look at these photos they don’t notice that we forgot to grab the bridesmaid’s flowers during the shoot or their damp hair from the all the rain; they’ll notice the pure joy of their love. THAT is my favorite thing to shoot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love big flowers and the small details that make you feel like you are in a magical dream. But my biggest wish for my newlyweds is that they will remember to celebrate the marriage not so much the wedding
