Natural and Romantic Photography

It has taken me almost 11 years to find my style of shooting but I think the reason I'm hired most is because people love my candid-like, natural and romantic style of photography. They see photos of couples looking at each other, laughing and being playful. I especially love this style of shooting in engagement photography. I feel like a wedding day gives permission to be a little more formal, although I definitely bring out the playfulness of a bride and groom as well. But a couple who have recently gotten engaged still have stars in their eyes. They are madly and sometimes newly in love. They're still in the PDA phase that makes their family and friends want to gag. ;)

When I'm shooing an engagement session, of course it takes a little while to get a couple to warm up, but once they realize I'm not going to "pose" them, they loosen up and aren't afraid to have a little bit of fun. I think that's the thing people dread the most, especially men, about having a photo shoot. But I hate posing too (shhhh, it's my weakness) so I guide my couples into where I want them to go for the images I have in mind. I ask them to walk away from me and then walk back and I ask the groom to whisper funny things to his girl... even if he has to get a little naughty to make her giggle. After all, no one can hear his "sweet" nothings being whispered. I try to make my clients comfortable enough together that they almost forget I'm there. Just play together. Talk to each other. Laugh, look into each other's eyes and maybe have a little smooch here and there. Make her blush.

I love to have couples dance and twirl, especially if she has a floofy dress on.... yes, floofy is a word. Girls, you know what I mean! You've twirled in a floofy dress! Right?  And I know the dip and kiss can be a little cheesy but I always hold out for that moment when he pulls her out of the dip and pulls her in close for a real kiss and she has that real expression of just having been swept off her feet.

Whether it is engagement photos for Save-The-Date cards or bridal portraits on a wedding day, I like to capture moments between real people in love. Perfect fleeting moments in beautiful light. That's my favorite.
