Hi there! To quote one of my favorite movies, "I like to start my notes to you as if we're already in the middle of a conversation. I pretend that we're the oldest and dearest friends..." ('You've Got Mail'... yeah I'm a hopeless romantic and I still think of bouquets of sharpened pencils every fall!)
I haven't had time to sit and watch rom-coms in about six years though since I'm now a mom to four littles; the wonderful reason I'm a photographer today! They also give me the best practice at capturing free-spirited children (with my camera, of course)!
After out-growing my first hand-me-down camera several years ago, I purchased my first brand new camera and lens and got to practicing. I studied for hours and hours online, soaking up everything I could to learn how to handle lenses, lighting, color balance and worked to figure out my personal style. Now, just short of two years into opening my business, I am so grateful I took that first step and for how the Lord has blessed my business! I get to do things like hang out with blissful newly-weds or snuggle brand new babes!
When I was asked to contribute to this blog, I was so flattered but had no idea how I would pick images from just one session because there are so many images that I just love from all sorts of sessions! My favorite images are usually soft, creamy, slightly purple, peachy and matted. I tend to love individual portraits because of the simplicity and beauty!
While I mostly shoot portraits, my favorite images are usually unplanned. Catching a laugh or a look of love... those are the best. You just can't plan this sort of magical moment. Sure, you can plan and try... but these moments that make you gasp... they're one of the biggest reasons I love what I do.Another gift of photography is the blessing of getting to know people. Real people with real stories. In a skin-deep-beauty-saturated industry, photography still has a way of connecting you to people and causing you to see THEM. The person on the inside; not just the image coming through the lens.
I love LOVE! A father kissing his daughter. A mother holding her newborn. A new husband and wife gazing into each other's eyes as they begin their forever!
I love the opportunity to catch a stunning moment in time when you see joy pouring out of the person in front of your lens because they're doing what THEY love.
I love that I get to capture the start of NEW LIFE! How incredible! I love capturing the happy moments.... ...and even the sorrowful ones. Raw emotion is beautiful!! I love to find the extraordinary in the ordinary!
And while I don't typically shoot weddings... there is something addicting about capturing fresh romance! And as much as I love being behind the camera, I think I love editing my images even more! It's an incredible feeling watching your vision take shape! I feel so very blessed to have the privilege of creating the art that hangs in my client's homes. Knowing that my handiwork will be enjoyed by my clients and their loved ones is a wonderful gift!
