Hello. My name is Andy and I have been working professionally since 2011, but 2013 is where I really found my style. I started off photographing a bit of everything until I realized that I need to be focusing on a few of the things I enjoy rather than trying to include the types of photography I don't particularly enjoy. Which has lead me to a focus primarily on Senior Portraits, Couples, Families, and Small Outdoor Weddings, probably in that order. I uploaded this session with Victoria in particular for a couple of reasons, the first being that it's one of my most recent sessions, but I also LOVE how it turned out, it really fits what I feel is a great representation of my "style." Even though I started a photography business in 2011 I can't say that that's when I started growing in this field. I actually started photography in High School, my senior year (which now that I think of it is kind of ironic given the genre I photograph the most) back in 04/05, with black and white film work. I enjoyed it for a little while, but I think the time it took to process one image just caused me to lose a little interest for a while (shame on me right?). Some years later, with the support of family, I got a basic DSLR and that was a total game changer. Even though I didn't really grasp the "art" part of photography and producing low quality work, I still had this deep desire to put what I see into an image. In college I took an elective course (digital photography) to finish out my English Degree (story for another day) and my wonderful digital photography teacher, Dee Peppe, really helped me appreciate and see digital photography as an art form as well as teach me the fundamentals of post processing with Lightroom. She was wonderful in helping to push that thought of "Oh! This could be something for me!" and I will always be in debt to her for that encouragement. If I had a nickel for every time I tried to nail down my style in a few words. I suppose I would classify it as Natural Light, Muted, and Vintage Classic Style. I tend to use as little equipment as possible. Typically just my camera and maybe my phone to play some tunes. I really just want to use what's around me rather than creating light from another source or trying to bounce light around. I dunno, just keep it simple, you know? Working with young adults is my jam, which is basically why Senior Portraiture is the genre I lean heavily on. In my off season I also substitute teach, which is probably what'd I'd be doing full time (teaching, not subbing) if my photography wasn't successful. I really love the idea of being able to capture a moment in a young person's life where they're transitioning into adulthood. Not quite a kid, but not quite an adult either, and they'll never get this time of their life back. It's wonderful to think about how I get to be a part of these awesome teens lives and eventually get to see who they become. In that time to be a drop-in-the-bucket of their life is very rewarding for me.
