Truth be told, I never thought I would end up as a photographer.
When I was 21 years old I was hired as a photojournalist for my college newspaper. After getting fired from a liquor store clerk position, I barged into the newspaper office demanding a job from the photo editor with absolutely zero experience. He told me to bring my portfolio the next day. So naturally I went home and Googled "portfolio" and realized I was in trouble; but I thought what do I have to lose! When I brought in my "portfolio," the photo editor literally laughed so hard his eyes watered! After he composed himself, he said something that changed my life forever, "can you learn fast?"
That was the opportunity I needed.
College was, well college...and I still didn't take photography seriously even though I really enjoyed it. That is probably because I didn't take anything seriously at the time. But, there was a gradual change occurring deep in my soul, something I didn't realize until many years later. At the end of every day, one thought became more and more prevalent...I wanted to take better photos tomorrow than I did today! My motivation was that simple!
After I graduated from college, I was struggling to find my place in the world. Then I received a call from a newspaper because the main photographer had to cover the Michael Jackson trial around the clock...that was my next big opportunity I needed! That parlayed into my apprenticeship with one of the best wedding photography studios in the Santa Barbara area. After photographing just one wedding, I was hooked! The energy I get from capturing people's greatest moments is truly addicting! Wedding photography offers me a chance to make a meaningful impact on people's lives.
I now live in Scripps Ranch with my beautiful wife and son. When I'm not shooting weddings or portraits, I love going to the beach with my family, surfing Blacks, paddle boarding, traveling and hanging out with our Boston Terriers.
I'm certain of this one thing, I'm doing exactly what I was placed on this earth to do! When I think back on the path that led me to this very place I laugh, I laugh really hard! I'm so genuinely lucky to be doing exactly what I was born to do!
Welcome to my passion!
