Abbey Knoll Photography

More than 20 years ago, as a high school student, I took a part-time job as a photographer at Sears Portrait Studio—and the seed for my future as a photographer was planted! Little did I know as a young student with college and a business career ahead of me that I would one day return to my true passion—photography!

Taking pictures was always a hobby of mine so I minored in photography at Syracuse University. After earning my undergraduate degree, I entered the field of banking and finance and went on to receive an MBA from Lesley University. It wasn’t until I started my family and left the corporate world that I rekindled my passion for photography and Abbey Knoll Photography was born.

How did I come up with the name Abbey Knoll you might wonder? Well, Abbey was the name of my beloved dog and the name held a special place in my heart so it seemed fitting to keep her memory alive through my passion. Today, Abbey Knoll Photography is a successful photography studio on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I’m fortunate to live in the area I do with such a broad and beautiful variety of locations to shoot at—from farms to beaches and local historic homes to Cranberry Bogs, this location has it all!

The services I offer run the gamut from engagements and weddings to maternity and newborn sessions. I love photographing families and portraiture is a large part of my business—I have many repeat families each year who order their Christmas cards from Abbey Knoll and I love seeing the progression each year. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as watching families grow and mature and seeing those you photographed as babies turn into seniors!

Through the years, Abbey Knoll Photography has received many honors and awards and has been featured in many publications such as South Shore Living, The Patriot Ledger, Cape Cod Life, Kidding Around Magazine, and area Mariner newspapers. My work has also been featured on the television station NECN and local radio station WATD. I am also a contributing editor and write the column “Photo Secrets for the Mamarazzi,” which appears in local and regional publications. Additionally, I teach photography classes and workshops on all over the South Shore. This year, I was thrilled to learn Abbey Knoll photography received the Patriot Ledger Reader’s Choice Award and the Golden Daisy Award from Macaroni Kids for favorite South Shore photography business.

I photographed this group of about 10 seniors before I started booking my senior sessions for the season. Typically I shoot between 50-75 seniors in a season from all over the Metro Boston area. This particular shoot was such a fun group of kids with a high energy level. Looking at the pictures you can see their personalities shine through. We shot this locally at an old farm in Hanover and used retro wardrobes akin to “Rosie the Riveter” which made the shoot have that retro 40s and  50s feel with Coca Cola bottles and red bandanas as props. One model even brought a guitar and played old tunes throughout the session giving it real friendly summer feel.  In honesty it felt more like a party than a photo shoot! We also had a film crew doing video as well and we used that footage for local television segments and interviews.

The reason I think this was my favorite shoot is that we worked hard towards the goal of creating the resulting images and I am really pleased with the results. I was able to create the ideal atmosphere to capture images and made them come alive and stay on theme. They were used for a promotional magazine that advertises senior portraits and I think it really captured what my style is all about.
