It is very rare for someone to have a job where they love what they do--- but I am one of the lucky few. Capturing people organically, in their element, is a challenge. But I get to be a fly on the wall in the lives of a family; and I take that role very seriously.

Finding my step as a photographer helped my vision come together. I love natural light and I want to give my clients beautiful, magically everyday photos of themselves and their families that is a snapshot of this time specific phase in their lives.

I use my camera to literally capture a moment—which sounds so cliché but it is really what most people are looking for.  We want to look back at our photos and see ourselves in the first stages of love, or to glimpse how small and wrinkly our tiny baby’s feet were.

I started off with a basic DSLR camera, taking photographs of my family and friends. And photography pulled me in. I took classes, watched tutorials, joined groups, and learned everything I could about the trade. Just like any art form, I am still collecting knowledge. I am still striving to push the boundaries, to improve, to learn more from others. And within that, still encapsulating ordinary moments in an extraordinary way.

This was a maternity shoot and the couple wanted to use a few of the photos to announce their pregnancy. We wandered around an old mine site, deep in the wood of northern California. We used whatever we could find—from old mining equipment to the pine needles that littered the walk ways.

This is one of my favorite shoots because not only is this couple beautiful but they are also two of my oldest friends. To see them go from a young couple in high school to a pair of expectant parents is a wonderful thing to watch. And as an added bonus—they are super photogenic.

We were racing against the weather and the storm clouds that had set in above us. This grey, diffused light provided us with an epic pallet of colors. I could not have asked for better clients, a more breathtaking setting, or greater illumination.
