My name is Cassie Xie and I'm a hopeless romantic: Southern-bred, Jane Austen-obsessed, lover of light and human stories, constantly chasing the notion of "golden hour", wherever it takes me.
I started photographing weddings a few years back simply because I love, well... love! Since then I've branched into a whole variety of personal portrait sessions, including family, engagements, and proposals.
From the way a groom's face changes as his bride approaches to the last twirl in a dance between a father and his daughter, there is so much utter joy in celebrating the joining of two hearts. Every engagement session and wedding serves as a lasting reminder to me on the overwhelming power and patience of love.
To me, photographing a wedding simply means telling a story. There are parts of the story that are shared among all brides, regardless of background, tradition, or age. From the bride’s first glimpse of her reflection in the mirror, to a proud mother’s last adjustment of her grown-up son’s tie, each picture captures a tiny memory that is poignant, significant, and entirely individual to you. It is my greatest goal that by providing couples with these picture memories, they will look into their own story of love and life, over and over again, for many years to come.
I like to think of my style as a genre-breaking approach to photojournalism, fine art, and traditional portraiture. My work incorporates a mix of these three photographic elements.
I love capturing real moments to help couples remember how they felt on their wedding day just as much as I love creating beautiful styled shots and formal portraits. Throughout the entire process of capturing a couple's "story of their day", I work to discover the unique angles and lighting adjustments that help create an extra layer of artistic feeling to an image.
I currently live life split between the coasts - while I'm currently based in San Francisco, California, I still cover numerous events each month back in my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, not to mention any additional weekend travel I can sneak in! Asides from photography, traveling is one of my other big passions and it's a (someday) dream of mine to live abroad.
..but until then, I'm living life at 100mph and loving every second of it. From discovering the next story beyond the bend to capturing those memories into priceless photographs, I'm so happy to say that every single photo session I've taken on so far has served as a lasting reminder of the overwhelming power of the human connection. If you're ever interested in a possible photo session, or simply chatting about the wonders of life, good eating, and our shared addiction to Instagram (it's too real), please don't ever hesitate to reach out - I look forward to meeting you!
