Adventure and Mountain Wedding Photographer Amy Galbraith

Hi there, I’m Amy of Amy Galbraith Photography. I am a mountain wedding photographer for thrill-seeking and outdoor loving couples. I have been photographing weddings in the Pacific Northwest and Jackson Hole since 2010. Telling stories through photography for like-minded humans is my life’s passion. An adventurous soul through-and-through, you can frequently find me chasing powder on my snowboard, trekking deep into the mountains with a backpack full of camping gear, or paddling out into the surf of the rugged Washington coast with my husband and son. I’m lucky that photography has given me the opportunity to witness one of life’s greatest adventures with so many couples. Through the lens I’ve shared tears of joy, moments of glee, and incredible heartfelt connections. It is my greatest honor to tell each couple's unique story!

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to share tears of joy, moments of glee, and incredible heartfelt connections in some of the most beautiful places. It's hard to choose just one session or wedding as a favorite, so I'm excited to share a collection of some of my favorite images and the story behind the scene.

bride and groom riding on a chairlift on their wedding day in jackson hole

One of my most favorite images that I've captured has to be this Jackson Hole wedding couple sitting on a chair lift. The couple had such incredible chemistry and their wedding was full of excitement, dancing, passionate kisses and a lively group of friends. They shared their first look on top of Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and rode the tram down in full dance party style. Post-ceremony, they decided they wanted a few moments alone together to soak in all of the excitement from the day. I rode the chairlift a few chairs in front of them, camera in hand. However, I found the most success using my telephoto lens and captured this stunning scene from the ground. This image to me encompasses everything I strive for as a mountain wedding photographer. It tells a wonderful story of this couple and their wedding day.

skiing engagement photos in the snow at crystal mountain

Adventure wedding and engagement photography is all the rage these days. I mean, how many times does a photo of a couple standing on a remote mountaintop pop up in your Insta-feed? Quite a bit, I imagine. I feel pretty lucky that I'm an adventurous person myself and have experience with most outdoor activities before couples ask me to capture them. I’ve been a diehard snowboarder ever since I moved to the Pacific Northwest. I lived in Jackson Hole through five winter seasons, spending 70+ days a year on my board. It was the perfect storm when I met this couple, who grew up ski racing together at Crystal Mountain in Washington. They booked me for their wedding and we started coming up with ideas for their engagement session. While we photographed them in both their favorite watering hole at the base of the slopes and hiking around in the deep snow with their dogs, I love this one of them with the local peaks in the background as we headed out for some backcountry skiing together. They met here, and basically grew up here knowing each other, and I hope this image always brings them back to the amazing place that started it all.

couple steals a kiss during their wedding reception at moose creek ranch in jackson hole

What makes being a wedding photographer such a special career is getting to experience incredible moments right along with my clients. Wedding days are a mixture of excitement, stress, love, anticipation, and are of course, very unpredictable. I love that no wedding is the same and each wedding I photograph I’m challenged to continue to look for little moments that others might not notice. Recently one of my clients commented that they had no idea I was taking some of the photos I did, and to me that tells me I did my job right. For this Jackson Hole wedding at Moose Creek Ranch, I was lucky enough to catch this moment of the couple stealing a kiss as they enjoyed their outdoor summer reception. I love that a few of the guests also caught it and are sharing in the excitement of the couple!

Something that makes me super excited about engagement sessions is when couples incorporate very personal aspects of their lives together into the shoot. As a photographer, I feel that I’m here to capture this entire time in their lives, from engaged to “I do”, and setting the stage with an engagement session perfectly tailored to the couple is essential. This couple owns a sailboat and most of their weekends are spent bouncing around between the beautiful San Juan Islands with their dogs and family. Although the marina where their boat is stored is a couple of hours out of the city, it was the perfect setting to capture this time in their lives.

And now, this certainly feels like the perfect finale image, right? In the Pacific Northwest, we are pretty much gambling every time we plan an outdoor event. It rains...a lot. And sometimes the best thing to do is embrace it. This particular wedding was in August, a month that is normally pretty reliable to have some sunshine. However, we weren’t so lucky and ended up with wind and a downpour of rain. As the night progressed, my husband (who was my second shooter at the event) and I started coming up with a plan of how to capture the rain. It was late in the evening when we suggested our idea to the couple and they had no issues with getting a little wet and braving the elements. We were all certainly glad they did!
