Being a photographer for over 12 years has taught me a lot about things...one in particular is weather. I joke that I have become a pseudo-meterologist since so much of my work revolves around the daily forecast. Living on the Central Coast of California we are graced with incredible weather throughout the year so luckily A. Blake Photography gets to call the outdoors the 'studio.' Sadly rain is not a common occurrence but when we do get it, California turns into a new kind of beauty with green rolling hills everywhere you look, especially in Paso Robles.
Matt and Katie had their engagement session planned for a few weeks and as the day inched closer a large storm followed closely behind. Katie contacted me and surprised me when she said, "Ashley, can we keep the session on and shoot in the rain?" This questions doesn't happen much for many reason but the excitement I had was instantaneous. I loved the thought of a rainy engagement session with a couple cuddled together under an umbrella...and that is exactly what we had. The rain fell off and on throughout our shoot but it provided such a unique diversity in lighting and texture for the pictures (both of which I love). I was also able to utilize the natural light available with clear umbrellas as we adventured through an open oak tree field and a mustard flower grove. All in all, I love the rain and I love couples willing to take a risk for an incredible session.
