The Rainwater Wedding | Soldotna, Alaska

My name is Alanna Allen. I am a photographer in Soldotna, Alaska.  I specialize in scenic Alaska photography sessions including but not limited to families, children, seniors, engagements, boudoir, pets & weddings.  My love for photography began early on.   I began taking scenic photos throughout Alaska and posting on social media to share with others. It wasn't until a co-worker at my previous job gave my name to a local newspaper journalist who wanted to interview me and show off some of my scenic photos.  Shortly after that I began selling my portraits and at the same time took the leap to family portrait sessions.  While I don't have children of my own yet I find that my strongest area in photography is with children. It still makes me laugh.

Last year I was asked to photograph my first all day wedding. I was nervous as I wanted the day to be perfect and beautiful for the bride and groom but also for myself. I planned weeks in advance. The day of the wedding arrived and everything was beautiful. The location was on the bluff in Kenai, Alaska overlooking the most beautiful scene. It unfortunately decided to rain ALL day long.  Not once did I hear a complaint from anyone in the wedding party or guests. Everyone was happy to be celebrating such a beautiful day.  After that I realized I wanted to continue photographing weddings.

    THE RAINWATER WEDDING | July 30th, 2016

The Rainwater wedding was absolutely amazing. Justin & Brittney met through a mutual friend around two years ago.  I actually was with them the night they got engaged which made the engagement photos and wedding photos even more special because I was able to watch their love grow and blossom every step of the way.  Justin & Brittney were married at the Lucky Horse Ranch in Soldotna, Alaska on a beautiful but breezy Saturday afternoon.  The ceremony took place in the barn and the reception followed after.  Most of the wedding photos were taken in a nearby field complete with hay bails and horses. Swoon!

    THE WEDDING PARTY

    EZ5A9238-3

Justin and Brittney had 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. Taylor was the maid of honor and Dan was the best man. I can't leave out the fantastic furry ring bearer Ruger. He decided to join the wedding party for some photos. Brittney's beautiful dress came from a local wedding dress store in Anchorage, Alaska. It fit her perfectly.  The mint bridesmaid dresses paired perfectly with the brown vests that the groomsmen wore. The colors could not have been more perfect. EZ5A9392-2EZ5A9268

I had a really hard time choosing which photos to share from this wedding. I was taking photos from beginning to end with this wedding. I started by meeting the bride and bridesmaids at the hair salon (Maxim Hair Salon) and capturing the photos while the girls were getting their hair and make up done and finished up photographing just before it got dark out. Every detail of the wedding was so thought out.  The men wore cowboy boots with their outfits as well as the girls. Brittney had an adorable pair of boots on underneath her gorgeous dress.  We made sure to get a photo of all the girls showing off their boots.  EZ5A9258EZ5A8830-3EZ5A8699-3EZ5A9376EZ5A9320

    THE CAKE

EZ5A9513The cake was so perfect for the wedding! I loved where they had the cake set up in the barn and it especially looked great against the white barn wall. EZ5A9628EZ5A9493

    GETTING READY

The bridesmaids got ready in the family motorhome right outside of the barn. This made it easy for me to run back and forth between the motorhome and inside the barn. Brittney had her mom, aunt and grandma helping her get ready as well as the bridesmaids.  Justin and the rest of the guys got ready at a nearby house and were busy getting the last minute details set up.

    The Delivery

I like to give my bride and grooms something special when I deliver their wedding photos.  My packages include a custom engraved wood box from Hanging Branch out of Seattle, Washington. The front of the box can be custom engraved as well as the flash drive containing all of their wedding phots. Typically I include 100+ 4x6 prints inside the box but I really liked how Justin and Brittney's wedding invitation looked inside the box with some freshly picked Alaskan wildflowers. I am Jessica Simpson, a Northern Virginia and Shenandoah Valley wedding and portrait photographer.  Weddings are filled with many emotions and beautiful details. The entire wedding day is a story I love to tell through my camera.

On May 7, 2016 Ben and Jessica were married at Faithbrooke Barn and Vineyard. Faithbrooke is a new venue in Luray, VA. It is easy to love this place. It's tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains overlooking the Massanutten Mountains. It rained the entire week before the wedding and there was a chance of rain on their day. Thankfully there were just a few sprinkles during dinner. Jessica got ready in a gorgeous log cabin with her bridesmaids and mother. We arrived at Faithbrooke just before the ceremony. The sun shined, and there was so much love surrounding their wedding day. Carper's Florist based out of Front Royal, VA put together some of my favorite floral arrangements. Ben and Jessica's wedding was one of my favorites. They are one of the nicest couples and documenting their wedding day for them was an honor.

The love and emotion surrounding a wedding day is one of my favorite things. So many beautiful  moments are naturally unfolding and I truly appreciate being the one to document it. In the Bride and Groom portraits, I am able to capture the first moments alone as husband and wife, these are some of the most beautiful and intimate moments. Couples cherish these photos and I truly enjoy documenting this time for them. I also really love the details. The details are one of the things that bring a wedding day together. The Bride has spent months sorting out details and planning everything from the colors to what the flavor of cake they'll have. Capturing all of the details that a Bride has spent months putting together and seeing their day finally come is so fulfilling.

  • Dani Stephenson - Rustic Barn Weddings

In my book, a clean backdrop, your closest family and friends, nature and a handful of meaningful details make the best weddings. I have shot a variety of different weddings but the one that holds true is the barn wedding. A big trend right now is rustic weddings here in Wisconsin. Outdoors, barns and farms are where it's at.

I think it's popularity comes from having the  freedom to roam, decorate and do what you want with you day. No specific rules, timelines or hands on staff that can alter your day.  A blank slate backdrop of a barn or farm feeds creativity, inspiration to have any style, color scheme or decor you want to craft a perfect day.

A barn wedding doesn't necessarily have to be country or rustic. I have worked at several different types of barns and some of them would even fit a black tie affair.  I love the variety it brings to me while shooting.

Most of the barns and farms I work at have both ceremony and reception spaces and plenty of room to roam for gorgeous outdoor photos.  I also think an all in one venue is so crucial for a stress-free timeline, with no travel in between, no lulls just a smooth flowing day. Getting ready on site, a first look and then all directed photos prior to a ceremony flows right into a fun and memorable cocktail hour with your guests while your venue transforms your space for dinner.

As you can see, there are numerous wonderful reasons to choose a farm or barn for your wedding, the best reason for me is the freedom to make it your own!
