The Rainwater Wedding | Soldotna, Alaska

My name is Alanna Allen. I am a photographer in Soldotna, Alaska.  I specialize in scenic Alaska photography sessions including but not limited to families, children, seniors, engagements, boudoir, pets & weddings.  My love for photography began early on.   I began taking scenic photos throughout Alaska and posting on social media to share with others. It wasn't until a co-worker at my previous job gave my name to a local newspaper journalist who wanted to interview me and show off some of my scenic photos.  Shortly after that I began selling my portraits and at the same time took the leap to family portrait sessions.  While I don't have children of my own yet I find that my strongest area in photography is with children. It still makes me laugh.

Last year I was asked to photograph my first all day wedding. I was nervous as I wanted the day to be perfect and beautiful for the bride and groom but also for myself. I planned weeks in advance. The day of the wedding arrived and everything was beautiful. The location was on the bluff in Kenai, Alaska overlooking the most beautiful scene. It unfortunately decided to rain ALL day long.  Not once did I hear a complaint from anyone in the wedding party or guests. Everyone was happy to be celebrating such a beautiful day.  After that I realized I wanted to continue photographing weddings.

    THE RAINWATER WEDDING | July 30th, 2016

The Rainwater wedding was absolutely amazing. Justin & Brittney met through a mutual friend around two years ago.  I actually was with them the night they got engaged which made the engagement photos and wedding photos even more special because I was able to watch their love grow and blossom every step of the way.  Justin & Brittney were married at the Lucky Horse Ranch in Soldotna, Alaska on a beautiful but breezy Saturday afternoon.  The ceremony took place in the barn and the reception followed after.  Most of the wedding photos were taken in a nearby field complete with hay bails and horses. Swoon!

    THE WEDDING PARTY

Justin and Brittney had 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. Taylor was the maid of honor and Dan was the best man. I can't leave out the fantastic furry ring bearer Ruger. He decided to join the wedding party for some photos. Brittney's beautiful dress came from a local wedding dress store in Anchorage, Alaska. It fit her perfectly.  The mint bridesmaid dresses paired perfectly with the brown vests that the groomsmen wore. The colors could not have been more perfect. EZ5A9392-2EZ5A9268

I had a really hard time choosing which photos to share from this wedding. I was taking photos from beginning to end with this wedding. I started by meeting the bride and bridesmaids at the hair salon (Maxim Hair Salon) and capturing the photos while the girls were getting their hair and make up done and finished up photographing just before it got dark out. Every detail of the wedding was so thought out.  The men wore cowboy boots with their outfits as well as the girls. Brittney had an adorable pair of boots on underneath her gorgeous dress.  We made sure to get a photo of all the girls showing off their boots.  EZ5A9258EZ5A8830-3EZ5A8699-3EZ5A9376EZ5A9320

    THE CAKE

    GETTING READY

The bridesmaids got ready in the family motorhome right outside of the barn. This made it easy for me to run back and forth between the motorhome and inside the barn. Brittney had her mom, aunt and grandma helping her get ready as well as the bridesmaids.  Justin and the rest of the guys got ready at a nearby house and were busy getting the last minute details set up.

    The Delivery

I like to give my bride and grooms something special when I deliver their wedding photos.  My packages include a custom engraved wood box from Hanging Branch out of Seattle, Washington. The front of the box can be custom engraved as well as the flash drive containing all of their wedding phots. Typically I include 100+ 4x6 prints inside the box but I really liked how Justin and Brittney's wedding invitation looked inside the box with some freshly picked Alaskan wildflowers. • Southeast Alaska Bridal Portraits | Asia Dore Photography

    AsiaDore1

Planning a wedding means hours upon hours of researching, organizing, scheduling, and preparing for just one day of your life. And when that day finally arrives it flies by in an instant. So when Kristen asked me about a bridal portrait session on the beaches of Southeast Alaska, I couldn't say yes fast enough. Because honestly? After all that planning she deserved an hour of fun in her stunning J.Crew gown with the wind hitting her veil. For no one other than her, for no reason other than "why not."

Pro Tips: If you're considering a bridal portrait session (and I hope you are!), plan on booking it on the same day as your hair & makeup trial like Kristen did. Also, make sure your portrait photographer knows your wedding date so no sneak peeks get posted before your big day.

I'm Asia, and my job is awesome. I'm a portrait, wedding, and elopement photographer in Wrangell, Alaska. You hear a lot about photography as a way to preserve memories. Freeze time. Capture moments. But that's not the reason I'm a photographer. Because while I agree a photograph allows us to relive a wonderful thing that happened once, I believe it can also serve as a reminder that wonderful things happen every single day. A reminder that THIS is the moment you're in now, and it has the potential to be whatever you want it to be. This philosophy has driven me toward a style that focuses on the quiet, subtle, in-between moments. I hope to inspire my clients to be truly present in their lives, because when our simplest moments are acknowledged? That's when we're really living.
