BRENDA BABCOCK | Celebrations

I am originally from a small town in Minnesota but now live in Rome, Italy. Since childhood I dreamed of spending time in Europe, particularly France and Italy, to discover why they have always had such a strong dedication to aesthetics throughout history. Art, design, fashion, architecture. I took a three month sabbatical from my fashion career in NYC to get to know Italy and then was unable to make myself leave, it just seemed too good to be true.

Now I have the great fortune of planning exquisite weddings and events throughout Italy with my company Brenda Babcock | Celebrations in breathtaking locations, sharing my love of my adopted country with my clients. And although I have been living in Rome now for 17 years part of me will always be a tourist here which is one of the best parts.

The question that I am asked the most is “where is the best place to get married in Italy”? It is an impossible question as there are just so many gorgeous locations and each one is better than the last. My favorite location and my favorite wedding is always the last one that I did. I fall in love with each wedding and location and by the end am convinced that it was the best of all possible situations.

These are photos of a wedding in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast. For me the location is as close as we will get on earth to paradise. Sea, check. Mountains, check. Luscious gardens, check. Historic setting, check.

We planned this wedding with the bride in just four months. We had just started planning it for the following year when the bride sent me an email saying “call me crazy but I don’t want to wait 16 months to get married, I want to get married now”. And so we made it happen.

The bride has great taste and a very personal point of view. She wanted a Boho Chic meets Italy vibe. She wanted lemon trees inside of the Catholic church and her bouquet to trail all the way to the ground. I collected all these Chinese plates, vases, ginger jars in the span of four months from every flea market I could find both in Italy and when I was vacationing in London, San Diego and Berlin.

The whole three days came together beautifully and seamlessly and in some surprising ways. This wedding will always remain one of my favorites for both the sheer beauty of it and for the warmth of the bride and groom.
